It's a Classic

THE CAST

Amitabh Bachchan: dramatic, upright, wetblanket Yashovardhan Raichand.

Jaya Bachchan: impossibly short, cute as a button, sometimes unbelievable Nandini Raichand.

Shah Rukh Khan: breathtaking Rahul Raichand.

Kajol: should-be-taking-ritalin, peppy, spazzy Anjali Sharma.

Hrithik Roshan: dreamy grown up laddoo Rohan Raichand.

Kareena Kapoor: vain, male obsessed Poo(ja).

Rani Mukherjee: you-only-wish-you-were-better-than-Anjali Naina.

Farida Jalal: caring DJ

THE PLOT

Yash and Nandini adopt a baby boy (Rahul) and then have one of their own (Rohan). They are a happy, close family. Then Rohan goes off to school and Rahul falls in love with a bluecollar underling (Angali). After Angali’s father dies, Rahul marries her without his parents blessings. They go to receive blessings but stick-in-the-mud Yash sends them away, so they move to London. Rohan comes back from school and finds out his brother is not only adopted, but was kicked from the house. So he goes to London to find his brother and sister-in-law and bring them back to be one big happy family. What he finds is Poo, the tormenter of his pudgier days. A few good scenes then he is invited to move in to work his magic. You can guess what happens (or you have to watch the movie then). Like Parent Trap, the two opposing sides are tricked into being in the same place at the same time and Rahul bumps into his parents. Tears, sniffling, and outright wailing by myself, the movie is over and the family is once again reunited and happy!

MY OPINION

Now, I happen to like movies that make me cry like someone in my family just died. So this movie was good for me. The acting was excellently done by most. Emotions were seen in the actors eyes and the hint was taken (cues to cry!). My favorite character is Angali, best described as a spaz! My least favorite, of course, is POOOOOOO. Her acting smells like her name. So I loved it when Rohan burns her at the school! The only thing that was a little overboard is how Rohan and POO (ugh) fall in love. How quaint to have an all-inclusive family. I’m a sucker for a happy ending though, and this one was the best happy ending ever. My favorite song was ’’Suraj Hua Maddham’’. Costumes, choreography, scenery. The ending especially. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard in my life.

Enjoy the movie!! If you’re wearing mascara or have a leaning towards sobbing loudly like myself, I’d see it alone in the confines of your own house.
