National Anthem to Evoke Patriotism? Give me a Bre

I saw this movie bcos of my fave on-screen pair – SRK and Kajol. Kajol is fabulous. She is one actress who should never quit acting.

For me, there are 2 types of movies – “Feel Good” and “Good”. The FG movies relies heavily on FG factors – gorgeous Gagra Cholies and Sherwanis, dream sequences ( songs shot in Egypt?), patriotism, NRI crowd, Indian Sets etc..The “Good” movies are the ones like Monsoon Wedding, and now that’s a rarity.

K3G is an out and out FG movie ( What is the FG factor when people around you sob in the theatre?). But there is a scene where the FG factor is stretched to the seams. Anjali’(Kajol) son sings the National Anthem instead of Dore Mee to please his Indian Mom. The English crowd stand up and sing along in the scene. And everyone in the theatre was sitting and watching the scene. Excuse me, the National Anthem is not a filmi song. The whole scene sucks pathetically. What is so Indian about seeing the National Anthem dragged into such a commercial venture? “Sare Jahan Se Acha” would have been better. And as far as the British singing Indian National Anthem, give me a break.

Will our directors ever learn?

Obviously this movie relies on markets outside India. Oh my, but did the director not know that POO (short form in the movie for Pooja( Kareina??) is a dirty word in German?

K3G is an emotional roller coaster movie definitely watchable only for SRK and Kajol performances and other FG factors, if you happen to like FG movies.
