Happened to see a movie after a long time and it turned out to be Kabul Express.
The over all experience was OK. The visuals are stunning. The background score is great. The acting of the lead characters viz., Arshad Waris, John Abraham, and others are good.
The movie is about a journalist and a photographer going to Afghanistan post the American intervention in the country after 9/11 for interviewing the Taliban.
They encounter a Taliban and also pick up a American woman journalist, whilst they are kidnapped by the Taliban, who make them take him to the Pakistani border.
The film is the journey of the 2 Indian, one American, one afghan and one Taliban. It revolves on the different situations they face, and also ponders a little bit over the making of Taliban. This is where the story from greatness, plummets into being a mediocre fare.
The movie though shows the involvement of the Pakistanis in the making of Taliban does very less to explore the same.
Also the actual feelings of the Afghans against the Taliban are also explored very less.
I will not reveal the climax, as this may spoil the interest of all those cinema goers, who want to watch the movie.
Thus a movie, which could have got mentioned in the history of cinema, may sink without even creating a small wave. Thus the movie remains somewhere between being a serious one and a run of the mill stuff.
One should definitely watch the movie for the visuals, for understanding a little about Taliban, and for the humour touch of Arshad Warsi, but be cautioned this is not a family entertainer and not for those for whom 9/11 is just a date and Taliban is something they heard somewhere.
Happy Watching.
