Passion across Borders

Who is better - Kapil Dev or Wasim Akram ?

Who started the Afghan war - Afghanistan or Pakistan ?

War Reporting - A dream of every reporter.

The movie captures these and a lot more passions through the lens of 2 Indian and an American reporter. Providence brings the Indian reporters Suhel(John Abraham) & Jai(Arshad Warsi), the American reporter Jessica(Linda Arsenio), the Afghan driver Khyber(Hanif Hum Ghum) and the Pakistani Commander Mohammed(Salman Shahid) together on a journey across Afghanistan. The movie takes you on a journey which gives a lot of insight - the infiltration by the Pakistani into Afghani Taliban, the double standards of the Pakistani government, the power game wielded by the Americans, the destruction of what was once a great civilisation named Afghan and the effect of the war on the civilians - both Pakistanis and the Afghans.

Running for a bit over 2 hours, the movie delves into the feelings of Mohammed, one who has sacrificed his personal feelings in favor of his country, one who wants to talk to his daughter but could not, a devout muslim but his work forces him to offer his namaaz with the gun on his side, one who enjoys the good old hindi songs of yore and finally who is disowned by his own countrymen due to a political game being played. One cant help but wonder how beautiful Afghanistan would have been, how much they would have progressed had the taliban not snubbed them for over 20 years. The buildings which are now in ruins show the richness which was once Afghan.

Kabir Khan in his first venture has set a very high standard for himself. Tackling a sensitive and serious problem with the right kind of humour is not an easy task and Kabir has done full justice for what he has set out to.
