INTRODUCTION
This movie isnt a very high level movie, but yet it is quite interesting. I didnt expect this movie to be a hit as it has two newcomers and trsiler didnt impress me a bit. But after seeing, the movie, I became impressed - highly impressed.
Rakesh Roshan seems to have made the perfect platform for his son to get into the interiors of Bollywood who proved his talents in Koi Mil Gaya and Lakshya even if there were lots of flops here and there.
THE MOVIE
The movies success is mainly from its songs. Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein Hai and Jaaneman Jaaneman sounded average. Chand Sitare, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara and Na Tum Jaano Na Hum where amazing ones and Ek Pal Ka Jeena just rocks.
The songs sounded so great that I bought two cassettes and an audio CD for the melodious songs in it. The songs seems to be becoming a major part of a movies success. Well, I am not writing a music review and coming back to the movie, it has a simple plot and theme which they have presented quite wonderfully.
THE PLOT
As I said earlier, it has a simple plot. Rohit (Hritik Roshan) wants to become a big singer. He, one day meets a rich girl named Sonia (Amisha Patel) whose father is played by Anupam Kher who doesnt want a naalayak (good for nothing fellow) to marry his one and only sweet daughter (How sweet is she?).
The two as usual in Bollywood movies, falls in love with each other and later go on a cruise where, by accident, they are stranded on a lonely island (Adam or Eve ke tarah akele - Hahaha).
After a few romantic scenes passes, the bloody father finds them and seperates them (Ek deewaar beech main khada kardhiya). Rohit and his friends finally organize a show after lots of difficulties.
At the same time, fatherji is involved in the murder of the Commissioner of Police and hamara hero is the eye witness. He is seen by the killers, but manages to run away in his bike only to get a gun shot and fall into the river. Even his dead body couldnt be seen by Sonia as no one could find that.
Poor Sonia goes to New Zealand leaving the memories of Rohit in India where she meets Raj who looks the same as Rohit. First, she thinks he is Rohit, but after relising that he is not, she is disappointed. Raj just manages to fall in love with Sonia (He got no one else in New Zealand?) who is just not interested (Wah purane yaadon mein khoya rahta hein).
He goes with her to India and the killers are on his tail, thinking that he is Rohit. They just keeps on running and finally organises a show in the name of Rohit which is actually performed by Raj Atleast that doesnt make a difference to the viewers).
Will Raj be able to win Soniyas love? Or will he return to New Zealand disappointed? Will they find the real killers and the boss? Or will they kill Raj instead of Rohit? What will be the killers thinking about the show and the return of Rohit? You can bet that there is some action and sentiments in the end. Thats the same case with any of the commercial movies released. It goes on like a routine these days.....
PERFORMANCE
The two debutant stars came up with some outstanding performances (I didnt expect that). Hritik Roshan has given an excellent performance which he can always remember and Amisha Patel looked good in the movie unlike some other movies of her in which she looks like crap.
I like her more when she is screaming and when she saw Raj for the first time in New Zealand, his expressions were really good. She comes with some revealing also in her very first film. I liked Hritiks second appearence as Raj more as he looked cool and that role seemed to suit him very much, actually both suited him very well.
Both debutants seized the big opportunity they got with both hands and made the entry into Bollywood with a bang (When opportunity knocked their doors, they did open it - arent they opportunists?). Anupam Kher was good as usual. But I like him more when he is doing comedy, but he did a perfect dad-villain in the movie.
CONCLUSION
With good direction and acting, an average story is made a super hit by Rakesh Roshan. Kaho Naa Pyar Hai is worth seeing especially for the songs as I said earlier. As usual, this movie is not free from flaws and technical errors and you may be able to find some big ones in this movie.
But this movie surely will be a new experience for those who see it. The movie made Hritik a heartthrob of that time and Amisha did get some fans and movies. If a debut movie is a hit, it will do your confidence really good (especially the producer will have some relief - phew).....
