Title : kal ho na ho synopsis-put in a less confusing way!
Review : kal ho na ho was a great movie to watch, whether you are a father, mother, daughter or even a brother. The movie was a movie of every day life, it wasnt a movie, lets say, which had no beginning no end and just a disorganised middle, it was a realistic movie, something which made people think, somthing that made people realise what life is worth and the one turn which could make you suffer for life.
kal ho na ho is revolved mostly around naina katherine kapur (preity zinta- who has acted extremely well in the movie), and the finishing touches, which made the film even more magnifisent, including aman mathur (shahrukh khan), rohit patel( saif ali khan) and jennifer kapur (jaya bhachan).
The film opens with the sites of america and the background voice of preity zinta. As soon as this narration is over about america, and naina (preity zinta), who is a responsible girl as she is the oldest out of her siblings, but doesn’t enjoy her life as one of the reasons is her fathers death which comes around in a later stage of her life, also because of this, many problem occur between her family members, starts talking about herself we know instantly that the movie is going to be distressing. We then go into the household of the kapur family.
There we meet naina’s innocent mother, jennifer (jaya bhachan) , who handles the family business, a cafe-which doesn’t run very well and so this causes financial problems, and her family. We also meet here Daadi/ lajjoji, a singer who breaks the windows as well as the love of chaada uncle, gia, naina’s adopted little sister, and shiv, naina’s disabled brother. we then go on to meet rohit patel(saif ali khan). rohit patel is naina’s MBA class mate, who is always trying his best in anything that he does, he is the one person who gets on with naina as a true m8 and never does/ tries not to hurt her felings, always there 4 her, he’s the m8 every girl dreams of. THEN we meet the one and only , aman mathur(shahrukh khan), he’s the one man, who realises the stress that naina is under, her pain, her suffering, and also her new padosi (chadda uncles nephew).
after the one time at the disco, everything changes, daadi stops singing, shiv is able to play his dream sport, basketball, naina starts to enjoy herself, the cafe turns to an indian resteraunt...even kantabehn starts thinking differently of rohit ;)... and of course the only emotion left in the movie also appears..naina starts to love aman BUT THEN just as the viewers think that everything is going to be ok in the end, and aman and naina are going to get married, disaster strikes! rohit starts to like naina, but when he is about to tell naina that he loves her, naina tells him instead that she loves aman, so rohit is left there heartbroken, thats the first..but certainly not the last. when naina reaches aman’s house to confess her love for him, she finds a photogrqaph lying on the table of aman and ’priya’-sonali bendre. amam tells her that priya is his wife and he had a fight with her and she came to america. and so to bring her back he followed her here.
So that leaves poor naina heartbroken..thats number 2! as soon as she goes out the door, the truth comes out. aman is actually a heart pateint and had to lie to naina because he doesnt have long to live....he also loves her but ofcourse cant bear the fact that when he marries her , he wnt be able to spend all his life with her, it will also ruin her life. thats number 3!
naina tells rohit baout aman and priya the next day, who puts a difficult question infront of her, ’kya tum phirse pyar kar paogi?’ naina ignores the question, but cant face it when she sees aman and priya talking to each other on her street, priya is actually amans doctor. aman decides that he will make naina and rohit get together, as he knows that he is probably the only person who will keep her happy as well as understand her better than any other man. in the end of the movie, rohit and naina get married, and aman dies.
the scens are very carefully built up an example is the scene of the engagement. the scene is openend by the ’punjabi family’ entering with the gujjrati song, and then ’mahi ve’, however the scene is ended dramatically when aman collapses. all I want to say is that the movie keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. every scene is made up of new turns and so you’ve gotta watch it!
