Kal Ho Na Ho - so ignore this movie TODAY.

Please sample some pre-release hype (ethical & unethical), eulogies, illogical statements and manipulations.

Audiences who scramble to the cinema to see SRK’s new film, had better bring several boxes of tissues along ’’you’ll weep buckets throughout the entire story.’’ – Karan Johar

I wish I had taken buckets full of water to pour on the screen.

The advance booking of KHNH is three times that of KMG. – Trade analysts

How is that possible because for KMG the shows were full from Friday to Sunday as was the case with KHNH.

The trade analysts claimed that KHNH is a blockbuster, even before its release.

How could they say this even before the public has seen the movie?

Nikhil Advani has copied the style of Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra but has emerged with the style of his own – Komal Nahata

If one is copying someone how can he have his own style?

Karan incessantly boasted - “Its my baby”, “It’s my creation”, “I have conceived it”, “ I will collect the award for best screenplay”.

Poor Nikhil Advani is nowhere in the picture.

Some so-called respected film critics and journalists talked about SRK getting the best actor award

I am not surprised. Are you?

KHNH is nominated in Best film music album at the upcoming MTV Immies awards in spite of Karan missing the deadline by 2 weeks. And shockingly there is even a nomination for best performance in a song for SRK.

A nomination even before the public has seen SRK’s performance in KHNH!

This film will take Indian cinema to another level – Simi Garewal

Oh yes, but the only thing is that it will take the Indian cinema to a low level.

But the BIG question is – Does Kal Ho Naa Ho compliment all of the above? The BIG answer is a BIG NO.

STORY

Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) narrates the story during a morning jog in Manhattan, USA. She is the daughter of Jennifer (Jaya Bachchan), who is always at loggerheads with her mother-in-law Sushma Seth. Priety’s father has committed suicide. Jaya runs a restaurant with Lilette Dubey as her partner. Unfortunately the restaurant is not doing any good business and could be closed down any moment. All these problems turn Naina into a boring girl, whose life is devoid of any love and fun. Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan) is Preity’s friend doing MBA together. Saif tries to portray himself as a cool and happening person but falters every time he encounters a woman. One fine day, SRK (Aman), enters the life of Preity. He is a cheerful and good-natured man full of life. He nags her, wins the confidence and love of her family and tries to make Preity’s life as colourful and joyful as possible. Naina doesn’t quite like the antics of SRK but eventually falls in love with him. But SRK cannot marry Priety because he is a heart patient who can die any moment. So he decides to marry off Preity to Saif. SRK gives Rohit all the tips to win over Preity. Who gets the girl is all very predictable.

PROS

The introduction scene of Saif is excellently picturised and is a fun to watch.

The hilarious scene where Saif and Rajpal Yadav enter wrong houses. Rajpal Yadav, as a video pirate, mouthing mumbai lingo, is the scene-stealer.

The scene, where Saif is about to propose Preity when Preity tells Saif that she loves SRK, was hilarious. Saif’s reaction to that ‘shocking’ disclosure was marvelous.

The scenes where Sulbha Arya (Kanti Ben) suspects SRK and Saif of having an affair are hilarious.

The title song is beautifully picturised. Just watch the moment when SRK imagines himself in Saif’s place. That was hope and desire for living more and getting his love.

The scene where SRK reads out dialogues (non-existent) from Saif’s diary, which are actually his feelings for Preity. SRK excels in this scene.

CONS

It is such an irritating sight to see SRK nagging Preity . Though she is irritated she is never shown angry on him, even if he gets physical.

When SRK meets Jaya Bachchan for the first time he calls her Mother-in-law and jokingly proposes Preity. But there is not an iota of objection from Jaya nor she gets angry. This is shocking because SRK was totally a stranger to them that moment. He even insists on coming to their house for dinner and Jaya agrees. Can you bear such inanity?

The three irritating characters, the grandmother and her sidekicks are a torture and the director expects us to laugh at their childish antics.

The patriotism gimmick is once again evident in Karan Johar’s movie. When Jaya Bachchan’s restaurant is on the brink of closure, our all-rounder SRK suggests them to provide Indian cuisine to the local populace and snatch away the customers from the Chinese restaurant running opposite to theirs. And voila, in a day, customers swarm the restaurant in a jiffy.

SRK is a heart patient and at the end of his tethers but he is shown dancing, and doing all kind of hyper activities. The doctors and his mom are never shown advising him to rest or take precaution.

The movie is full of double-meaning dialogues. Sample some – Lillette Dubey tells Delnaz Paul (obese female character), SRK ko khol kar mat dikhana, bhaag jayega. Satish (playing a gujarati character) tell some female folks that his (w)hole (hall) is very big.

There are scenes galore of Semi Nude models exposing their flesh, Lillette Dubey showing her cleavage to attract customers and seducing Saif, characters mouthing double meaning dialogues, funny scenes suggesting a gay relationship between SRK and Saif. But the movie is still being projected as a Family movie.

Saif loves Preity because SRK tells him to. Preity loves Saif because SRK tells him to. Why? Preity loves SRK but when SRK tells her that he is married she feels bad and feels dejected. But when SRK tells her to love Saif she readily agrees. Preity is confused all the time. In one scene she loves SRK, the next scene, Saif mouths some emotional dialogues and she is in love with him. I am confused. Are you?

Why does SRK want Saif and Preity to marry in spite of knowing Saif’s flirtatious nature? And the hell, why at all does he care for Preity? There was nothing serious between them at all, neither neither friendship nor love.

SRK comes to US for treatment but rarely do we see him getting treated. He is wasting all the time in nagging Preity, impressing upon her family and playing cupid to lovers.

Jaya’s husband has an illegimate child, which Jaya adopts but never disclosed to her mother in law. And in the pre-climax scene Jaya exclaims – “Unhone ek choti si galti ki thi” Fathering an illegitimate child is a small mistake! Long live modern woman, which Karan Johar had boasted of presenting Jaya as.
