SUPERB AND DIFFERENT

Karan Johar is back and is he back or what. The album Kal Ho Na Ho is sure to pick up with repeated hearings and music video airplay. This is a chartbuster alright. Like his previous films, KKHH and K3G this one too has an astounding score but it is more than previous scores, which were plain normal. The songs have a major disco fever to them and the New York feel to them is pretty evident and with the Johar combine’s publicity grind they are going to bust out from everywhere possible for sure. Well first the film in brief. SRK and Preity are good friends and one day SRK discovers he is having Cancer and so he distances himself from Preity who finds a paramour in Saif and marries him. How the life changes when Preity is suspected of an extra marital affair forms the crux of Kal Ho Na Ho. SEL have been entrusted the enviable task to score the music for this prestigious project and Javed Akhtar writes some of the https://lyrics. So howz the album overall. Let me attempt a review.

MAHI VE - AWESOME SONG: Looks like a Sagai song alright but it is not just a simple Punjabi melody. It has got a genuine disco beat and not a disguised Bhangra beat doubling as a disco beat. The song is A BIG DIFFERENT from all the Punjabi song one has heard. It is pure bliss and is sure to be a chartbuster. I for sure got this one in mind for the college mega function on 17-18th October. Looks like everyone from the heroes to heroine to heroines mother are singing and looks like one heck of a song and if it is picturized with half the energy and vigor it exudes this is going to beat Its Magic as the dance number of 2003 for sure. A sureshot hit. 9/10

ITS THE TIME TO DISCO - Humn! This one brings back the disco fever of the 80’s with a haunting melody to it. It sure has got a nice simple melody and beat to it. Looks like a party song which comes at a pivotal time in the movie. But the main lyrics (ITS THE TIME TO DISCO, ITS THE TIME TO KHISKO KAUN MILE KISKO)? Is this meant to be a half satire song on the movie itself? Another dance number, looks like on Saif and on Preity and has a nice cool rhythmic melody which could really pick up like an anthem of the nation depending on the picturization and maybe repeated hearing. 8/10

KAL HO NA HO (sad) - This looks more like a lorie than a sad song. Punjabi lyrics are ok and the singing more traditional, looks like on the wedding night of Preity with either of the Khans. Starts of on a sombre note and then ’’TUM HO GUM KO CHHIPAYE, MAIN BHI HOON SAR KO JHUKAYE......... AB DOORIYAAN ITNI HAIN TOU MILNA YAHAN KAL HO NA HO ....’’ Any hints? Then we also have a full marriage mantra as well, looks like marriage does happen here. This for sure has been moulded as an extensive tear jerker session and hence is really a films visual song rather than for hearing on cassette or CD. 7/10

PRETTY WOMEN - Looks picturized on Saif who sings it after first time he sees Preity. Another Punjabi cum Ballad song but the results are as astounding this time around. I just hope they dont delete this song in the movie. THIS IS THE BEST SONG OF THE ALBUM and sure is gonna be a major trend setter. Although done ala Bombay Vikings, this time the spoof is on Pretty Woman with a Bhangra beat and result is really amusing. Cool cool song which for sure is another added attraction to this star studded venture. Its a full blown Pretty Woman soundtrack mixed with Bhangra. If you liked Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai or Woh Chali Woh Chali, you will love this song. Soft mushy melody with bhangra beats - an unbeatable combo and this one is another sure shot chart buster, just wait and watch. Karan Johar has actually paid Rs. 800000 for rights to use this soundtrack from the original movie and the result is really special. This is the song of the year. Will be a rage at all the ramp shows and discos across the country. 9/10

INSTRUMENTAL - More like a Subhash Ghai designed instrumental which is grand, rich on emotions and sure to chuckle the heart strings from the title rolling itself. Decent enough and wont do much to film anywayz since it would appear at the title track itself. Whats the new that they would do is to be seen with the titles. 7/10

KUCH TO HAI - An ok dokey song, neither very good nor very bad. What else should I say? Well it is a simple melody alright but next time I listen I am not listening to this one for sure. So thats it . 5/10

KAL HO NA HO (Title) - A more traditional title track that is a BUMPER CHAPPAD PHAAD KE HIT for sure. Melody, catchy quality, easy lyrics, uncluttered instrumentation is going to make this one a sure shot hit. Further the picturization is assumed to be a bonus and hence let this one burn the charts for some time to come and all those who cant handle mush in the world to just live with it The music is one laced with possibilities and if picturized well could dislodge KMG from top slot for the music this year. 9/10

Overall a very good album and after extensive break from some heavy duty slick mush, this one is just what doctor ordered. Go for it nowwwwwwwww!
