Lets see what do we have. Dharma Productions movie with no Jatin-Lalit? Does it work? Definitely does. Karan Johar (Director Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham), yes the man who had music from three different music directors in the same movie replaces his favorite pair (J-L) and gives the all cool trio SEL a chance in his new flick starring his favorite actor Shah Ruck KH..Kh.. Kh.. Khan, Pretty Woman Priety Zinta and Chote Nawab Saif Ali KH.. Kh..Khan. And what is the result? Pretty much the same what happened to music of Dil Chahta Hai or Mission Kashmir. Super hit. Music of KAL HO NA HO is yet another proofs of the fact that Shankar, Eshaan and Loy are still the best when it comes to music. The album has some really cool melodious songs, which are accompanied with folk styled dance numbers, which makes it a complete album.

The title track Kal Ho na Ho is beautifully sung by Sonu Nigam, whos effect intensifies in the sad version of the same which is sung by Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Richa Sharma. The Heart instrumental is soothing to the ears and kind of gives one relief from tensions and worries. The right combination of the intesity of sound effects used in the instumental really touches the heart. Kuch toh Hua Hai is another cool song that makes one really attached to the album. The album so far gives you a CHALTE CHALTE or SAATHIYA experience. Similar to the music of his (Karans) other movies KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI and KABHI KUSHI KABHI GHAM this movies music was expected to be good and moreover SEL have never let you down in the past and after listening to this album you get the feeling they will never let you down the future also. Lyrics from Javed sahab are meaningful and rhyming as usual.
- THE DANCE NUMBERS - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Its the time to disco... and Maahi ve are the real party numbers that not only make this album complete but also serve variety in the already loved album. The mixture of western music with the Indian folk beat makes these songs worth listening. Its the time to disco as the name suggest must have been shot in the Disc. The beats of the songs are not hard hitting like earlier SEL disc numbers like DIL CHCHTA HAIs Koi Kahe... but it fits the album in a very sweet and descent way. Maahi Ve is Bolen Chudiyan or Say Shawa Shawa type number which is descent in vocal as well as picturisation and mark a win over the recent trend of Item Numbers e.g. a) Dilli ki sardi - Zameen.
b) Aisa koi dilwala re - Kakhee.
and many more. Pretty woman is not a dance number, maybe? I am not sure...coz when I listen to this song I start dancing, I dont know why. But seriously I do. The song is not really a party number, (coz its not all that fast and all...) but it makes me move my body.
