Want to c how a politician shud be?

Dear all,

When I entered into theatre, I was expecting a Docu-type film. But Kamaraj(Kamaraj was the best ChiefMinister in TamilNadu, even in India in 60s) was not like one. The Director A. Balakrishnan beatifully as well as brilliantly picturised Kamaraj’s life along with the political issues then.

Kamaraj’s brilliant simple Tit-for-tats r handled in a gud manner with the help of Dialogue cum script writer Francis Kiruba. The starting scene itself... When Kamaraj was around 10, he asked a question.. ’Why do u all say ’’All fingers r not alike’’, Why dont ’’Both hands r alike’’?’.

In another scene, one person asked Kamaraj ’’Ur amma wants a bedsheet’’.

’’mmm..’’, Kamaraj.

’’She wants a fan too’’

’’Wats this? Why did he ask for Bedsheet? To avoid shivering only..No? Then, whats the need of fan here?’’

One more eg: When the security guard expressed his views over two children, after they got money from Kamaraj, Kamaraj turned to the security n sed ’’Children always dont lie.... Moreover, Poor children’’

This dialogue delivery helped for direction issues also. Kamaraj really didnt like marriage. So when he was asked abt it, he replied ’’Saappaadu edhuthu vai. Kai kazhuvittu vanthirren’’ (After this scene, dont forget to notice IR’s gud piece. A miruthangam along with other instru.)

The art director’s hand helped the film to one more step. Very gud location selections. No Thaar roads, n in one scene, u cud find an ad on a wall for ’’Kaalimark’’. Tat days famous drink.

The director keenly taken the film. At first, Viruthu Nagar was called as Viruthu Patti. Only after Kamaraj became CM, it became Viruthu Nagar. But, even the name changes, the native ppl cudnt forget the old name...Na?? In the last scenes, Kamaraj’s Amma called it as ’’Viruthu Patti’’ only.

He even captured an amma’s feelings. Whenever Kamaraj came to his home, his amma asked ’’Saappittayaa?’’, even she was in bed n counting her days.

The editor Lenin did a neat job. I think, it wud be a very tough job for him to connect those scenes, since they shud praise Kamaraj as well as move the film simultaneously. But Lenin did this carefully.

Meastro IR’s music was the backbone of the film. Dont trust ’The Hindu’. Thr r lot many places IR music comes in the film. (IR got only 1/3 of the money. But he gave us 3 times of his usual music) For many films, IR uses Violin(in many places) only. But here he used flute. But anyway, the music was the best one. He used NaduPaarthathundaa tune in someplaces, but with slight differences. When Kamaraj was in Jail, the jailer informed him ’’SathyaMoorthy passed away’’, then the camera showed Kamaraj’s reaction. In the very nxt scene, Kamaraj was released. But thr was some one year gap between these two sequences. IR composed a gud piece n helped the director to hav the scenes continuously. When 1967 election was help, IR composed one tune. And when Nagerkoil election held(Whr Kamaraj won), thr was one another tune.

When Kamaraj went to a collector’s home, he was seeing collector’s 7 yrs old daughter. She shyed over him n looked Kamaraj by one eye. Then thr was a gud piece. (This one remembered me Kutti. I donno why)

Whenever Kamaraj came to his home his amma did sth with ’Thirukkai’(Tat ulunthu araikkum machine) When Kamaraj came to his home while his amma was in bedrest, he saw ’Thirukkai’ only, for a few seconds. A gud direction also. IR also played a very gud flute piece to transfer Kamaraj’s feelings towards ourself.

One more brilliant thing... When Indira Gandhi started Wine shops, the BGM music was ’Ka..Ka..Ka..’ Song. ’’Aagaaram unnavey aasaiyodu oadi vaanga’’. Really a gud ’nakkal’.

Thr were only 2 songs. ’’Naadu paarthathunda’’ n ’’Senthamizh Naadenum othiniley’’(Bharathiar). I am sure... in the feature ’’Senthamizh’’ song will be played in every Tamil Nadu’s funtion. (I think, IR slightly changed the tune. I am not sure. Expects pls clarify.)

The director brilliantly skipped some scenes which didnt directly involved Kamaraj, even it was an imp scene. One such eg: Anna’s victory. The director skipped this piece with some small scenes only.

The only flaw I think was, the director showed Moraaj Desaai as ’seat’kku alaigira aasaami’. This shud hav been avoided. And the director captured Indira Gandhi’s scenes very well.

The director showed the status of TamilNadu by two ways. One was while Kamaraj was the CM, the remaining was when somebody else was CM. At the first half itself, I came to a feeling ’’Oh... Why didnt I born in Kamaraj’s period’’. And once the 2nd part going on, I came to a feeling ’’Oh... Why I am here among these ’Kaattumiraandi(I mean politicians)’ ppl?’’ Yeah... I think, the director wanted to bring this feeling to everyone who saw the film. Then he really attained

it. When the film ended, all stood up n clapped. Yeah... A clap for Kamaraj(for the film as well as for the personality).

I had a chance to meet n congratulate Mr. Madhuram(person who acted as Kamaraj), while I went into the theatre. Surely, it was a worthy congratulation.

This is not only a movie for Tamilians, but also for Indians, esp for Politicians. And this is a must see for everyone, I didnt want to rate this movie, but MS didnt allow me to do this. So leave it!

P.S: The above r only my views. No intention to hurt anybody. If u find so, excuse me.

Thanx n Regards,

Athi
