Hi friends this is my 2nd review in mouthshut.Hope this is going to help you all.
As the journey is very short and heritage rich, we( Myself and my wife) have decided to visit kanchipuram(kanchi)
Kanchipuram is the place famous for two things
1) temples
2) Silk clothes(pattu)
First thing to know before going there is, the temples in kanchipuram are
open at 6am and are closed from 12pm to 4pm.So we need to plan our journey accordingly.
otherwise its no use going there.Because we cannot enjoy the temples visit in the evening.
I went to koyambedu, chennai bus stand at around 6am and took agovt bus to kanchipuram.
Due to some traffic problem in the bus stand itself, it was late for 30min.
when the bus started moving it took exactly 1hr to reach kanchipuram.

( Also we have a volvo city bus 376 or 576( I dont remember exactly).from tnagar busstand

We got down and auto drivers are behind us.
The worst thing is that, whatever info I have collected in internet, I forget to take the
printout.
Then I saw an older person sitting in a std booth, I went to him and asked him 5 best temples
to visit.He helped me by writin down 5 best temple names on a paper.
I took an auto(charged Rs180) for going to all these temples and dropping me near busstand)
No waiting charges.
The temple list is:
1) Ekambaranathar Temple(One of the biggest temples in the country, with 1000 pillers and
a shiv lingam with 1000 lingams on it.and many more)
2) Kamakshi Amman Temple( The main Goddess and we can find temple elephants)
3) Kailashanathar Temple(The beauty of Olden days, the sculptures with sand, the beauty
is that the temple is of yellowish color and we feel like spending some time there)
4) Ulagalandha perumal Temple(The temple has a big statue of lord vishnu killing rakshasa)
5) Varadaraja perumal Temple(This is the place, which is expected to visit by everybody, it has golden and silver lizards, which are to be touched, to get rid of sins we have.And we find the sculptures whic are made are of great importance-Ex: we can find a chain of rings which is hanging to the temple walls-which is all made up of single store)
All tepmles are nearby except the last, but auto is the best option to go.
Each temple has a significance.
The auto driver was helpful, he took us to around 5 govt approved silk shops,
for the silk clothes puchases.
He was just expecting some more, but not demanding.I paid him Rs50 more.
We have adyar anand bhavan and sarvana bhavan and many other hotels, so food is not a
problem.
Taking auto is the best option in kanchipuram.
We had lunch after shopping and took a return bus to reach chennai aroung 5pm.
It was a short and historical trip, really its worth to be there for a day.
