MUSIC for the soul!

Well I was sitting in a restaurant in MANALI and I heard the kind of music playing there......which I had never heard before, it transformed me into a different world altogether. The music playing there was soulful, enriching, divine, heavenly and haunting.....and that was the kind of sudden impact it had on me.And being absolutely obsessed with music I could not help but ask the person sitting on the counter to tell me the name of the album and he told me that the music playing was KANDISA by INDIAN OCEAN.I noted down the name and as soon as I came back from there I got the album.....and I think I have never heard anything more beautiful then KANDISA.

The band behind KANDISA is INDIAN OCEAN.....comprising of four people, ASHEEM, SUSMIT, RAHUL, AMIT.They make and create music using minimal instruments like an acoustic guitar, drum and a percussion ensemble. The kind of music they make will come in the category of FUSION MUSIC.I think this band has phenomanal talent but sadly they have not got the recogination or fame that they should have got.I have two of their albums KANDISA AND DESERT RAIN......and both are simply out of this world. The kind of music i’ld love to listen.

The album KANDISA has seven musical compositions.I cannot explain in my words what is the thought behind each musical piece that has been made by the band so i’ll write it the way it has been described by the band members in the CD cover.

KYA MALOOM:The sheer futility of war and conflict is inexplicable to us, mere mortals. For the GODS, maybe, it is just a game, just another day in the life of Lord Shiva!

MA REWA:The first part is based on a traditionl hymn from Nimad(MP), about the Narmada river. The song has been interpreted here as the story of the original beauty of the river and the planned destruction of it...

LEAVING HOME(My absolute favourite):The concept dwells on the Patoral myth revisited. There is no golden past yet we seek it ultimately. We want to leave home, and then, one day, we wish o return. But we can never go back to the same.Because, home has changed, and in many ways, so have we.

HILLE RE:The world needs to be shaken out of the morass of corruption, venality and brutality. And the people have the power to do thisBased on the poem Hille Re by the revolutionary Bihari poet Gorakh Pande, its simple and powerful lyrics set to a driving beat inspire a truly memorable composition.

KHAJURAHO:A musical celebration of life, of sensuality, of procreation, of recreation, of exuberance......flowing into eternity.

KAUN:Throw away all your hatred, frustations and dissapointments.Recognize MAYA for what it is.Go deep within yourself, and you will find that the only way out is to live in peace and brotherhood.

KANDISA:The word means praise. It is based on a Syrian Catholic hymn beleived to be over a thousand years old.Sung in the ancient language of Aramaic, which was spoken even by Jesus, this song has an intrinsic, spiritual soul, which the band has tried to touch.

So these are the musical compositions in the album as explained by the band, itself.

Guys if you do not own a cassette or CD of INDIAN OCEAN.......you are missing out on something really special.Instead of wasting your money on those garbage albums of Nadeen Shravan and Anu malik spend your money on something worthy like Kandisa or Desert rain coz by doing so you will not only support their kind of music but also encourage them to come up with more such albums.

INDIAN OCEAN RULEZS!
