After listening to the songs from the movie and watching the trailer, I was eagerly waiting to watch the movie Kangalal Kaithu Sei. It seemed like the right choice when I was planning to watch a movie with my best friend to celebrate our good results in O-Level exams. I couldnt be more wrong in my whole life!
Plot:
John Vaseegaran is the 5th richest man in India and has just inherited his father?s multi-million dollar business empire. He is just 21 years old but manages to handle everything due to the way he was brought up (to manage the empire). He never knew what it feels like to play or enjoy himself and he does not have any hobbies. However he also has a part of him that enjoys watching cartoons, collecting teddy bears and listening to fairy tales from his nanny. His most favourite story is Cinderella. Vasee also has a bad habit. He is a kleptomaniac.
One day Vasee sees our Indian youth hanging in the footboard of the bus and wants to experience it. He stops his car and climbs onto the bus. However he doesn?t have money to buy the ticket (only has credit cards). He is pushed from the bus and falls down. In the hospital he encounters a psychologist to whom he tells of his habit. The doctor says the only medicine to his habit is Love.
Vidya is a multi-talented girl. One day she sees Vasee stealing a crystal clock in Shoppers? Stop. She is shocked and unable to believe it. The next time she sees him is at a diamond exhibition. She is in charge of a priceless diamond. Vasee who visits the exhibition and already knows about the diamond, manages to steal it. Now Vidya and her fiancé who is a police officer who put her in charge are in trouble. The only way they can get out is by finding the diamond Vasee has stolen.
Vidya joins as a PA to Vasee. Soon Vasee falls her and thinks that she is his Cinderella. However, he discovers that she is there to take back the diamond he has stolen. Before he could get her, she escapes with the diamond. Then the twist comes that it is not the original diamond.
Vasee now hates Vidya but loves his Cinderella who lives inside her. Does Vidya get back the diamond and what has she got to do to get back the diamond forms the rest of the story.
My Opinion:
For the first time in my entire life I actually felt like walking out of the theatre even before the movie ended. And it was also the first time I laughed so much for a movie that was not a comedy cause the scenes and the actors were so pathetic! I am so shocked that Barathiraja can come up with such a stupid movie after Sigappu Roja, Kizhakku Cheemayilea and Karuthamma. Even Taj Mahal seems to be slightly better compared to this movie. Actually the story is pretty good but the way it has been taken is atrocious. The first half was such a bore! The movie only picks up in the second half. The climax is quite predictable.
The reason why the movie is a huge letdown is mainly due to the lead pair. Vaseegaran is totally expressionless. His dialogue delivery seems so strange and not natural at all. Like my friend commented after watching the Theekurivigal song, this guy is probably only good enough for R (A) movies. Either this guy imply doesn?t know what is acting or the director told him he has to be expressionless. Priyamani is just ok in the role she has to play. However I don?t understand why she has to creep around the house and even her normal movements as if she is some detective and someone is coming after her.
The only positive things in this movie are the songs. The songs are taken quite well especially En Uyir Thozhiyea, Azhagiya Cinderella, Thikurivigal and Anarkali. Otherwise this movie is a huge letdown. I don?t usually like to write negative reviews but I had to write the review for this movie cause I don?t want the people who are planning to watch the movie to suffer like how my friend and I did! I wasted my money on this stupid movie. Please don?t make the same mistake I did.
p.s. I only give this movie 2 stars due to the songs and the basic story which is kind of nice
