MY TRIP TO KANYAKUMARI
-----------------------------------------
My heart sank with the setting sun for it meant the end of a wonderful journey
Guys! I write this review now cause I wanted to go the place with my friends this vacation . But then they were all scared that the tsunami would again cause damage and so the trip had to be changed to Ponmudi . The review on the trip to Ponmudi has been presented for you in my review on the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. My vacation will be over by the end of the day. Tomorrow onwards, back to college?. .
So guys! Do you feel that a tsunami will hit the coast of India again? Naa.....
My last trip to Kanyakumari was during the Christmas vacations . We were in a group of two families , mine and our neighbours. Mine means my father and my mother. Dont mistake, naa... I am not married, you see...
It was a one day trip for we live in the state of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, neighboring the Tamil state of Kanyakumari. So all we had to do was to set out early in the morning or to say, late midnight for we had to reach the beach by sunrise.
The road to Kanyakumari from Thiruvananthapuram is a dream come true once you enter the state of Tamil nadu. It is as smooth and without any traffic as any roads I have seen, and the vehicle really flies on the road. Although it isnt a four lane road, one can have all the pleasure of revving up the vehicle. Just be sure you are on the right way to the place.
You are traveling by your own vehicle, then I would recommend day time travel cause it is always a pleasure to drive the vehicle on such a beautiful road. The traffic is very less even during the daytime and so it is better to travel the day, reach there by evening, see the sunset and stay for one night. Next day morning, you can see the sunrise, and enjoy a day at the place till about noon and have a happy journey back .
Also, if you are on the route to the place by the NH 47, then make sure you visit the palace at Marthandam , concealing all the glory of the legendary kings of Travancore
O.k.! We reached the place by the time the sun had decided to present itself above the horizon . It is a very good view. To relax in the cool atmosphere of the place and watch the rising sun, slowly climb up to glory. With a group of family members or close friends, you can really relax .
But dont say I dint warn you. The whole place could be crowded in the morning . It is not worth the time to sit amongst the crowd. First find out a nice place to enjoy the view. And then let the solitude of the occasion get to the deeper realms of your heart.
Man! I dont know from where these words are coming from. Please dont mind the poetic mood I fall into once I recollect the solitude of the occasion.
You can relax on the beach, till the comfort you were enjoying starts to fade away. The atmosphere starts warming up a bit. It is time for breakfast. Not that I am a south Indian, but please try the south Indian breakfast . You have come all the way for the south Indian experience, havent you? We had a nice breakfast of Masala Dosha, idli and chammanti or chutney as some call it, as per individual preferences. But it isn?t the same as in north India, I think. This is purely made of grinded coconuts and chilly.
After breakfast, what to do? Lots! Take a nice walk on the beach for an hour . If you have your GF or wife with you, then take her hand, talk to each other. The beach is warm yet comfortable for you to enjoy the company of each other. Tease the waves , but please dont go out too far.
I didnt have a GF, and my family was with me, so we sat down and had a chat for a while. Time wasnt running fast. Or so I did feel, for I was waiting for the amusement park, Baywatch to open.
Yup! Time for some fun! Baywatch, here I come. The place is very good and though I didnt like the park as much as I liked Veega land, I had a good time till finally we had to get out of the park for the lunch. Now for all those who would visit the place for the park, I would recommend the Veega land instead , situated in the state of Cochin in Kerala. It is far easier to access with all the facilities like an international airport, railway stations etc very near to the place. Also if you would want to enjoy the scenery by road, then you have all the Volvo buses starting from the place to Bangalore, Delhi, and other areas.
O.k.! Lunch? Definitely south Indian ! Trust me on this one; find out a hotel catering Kerala food. It is not difficult to find as there are so many. Then try out the traditional Kerala meals, with boiled rice and all the other spicy curries . I would never go for a non- vegetarian lunch, while on travel, so, I cant comment on that.
After lunch, what now? What, you want to relax? No, man. There is no time. You have to go by boat to the Vivekananda rock memorial and the last boat to the place is by 4.00 in the evening . Dont miss out the experience of the boat journey to the sea.it is really great.
You know, the ship goes straight for some time and then turns towards the memorial, and no all of a sudden the waves start lashing against the boat . I was really scared. The boat was swaying like it was the end of life for me. There was this one big giant wave and all of us sitting in the side seats were washed clean . You have to see it to believe it. It was as if I took a bath with my clothes on. I have beautiful photos and I am going to post it on my website soon.
It is a wonderful experience to be on the rock surrounded by the lashing waves on all sides . The Vivekananda memorial is a beauty in itself and inside there is a prayer room for you to maintain your inner peace. Shhhh! Keep silence....Also there is this big symbol of ohm that is illuminated by natural sunlight throughout the day. I was really fascinated by the engineering work. It is said that Swami Vivekananda meditated at the place before he went to America for the international conference on religions held in Chicago .
Back on the beach, time for the horse ride . Though it is going to be on a horse escorted by a person, it is definitely going to be a wonderful experience for the first timers. Just my experiences... give the person an extra deal of money and he will take you out for a small walk rather than in a circle. It is definitely worth the money for all the first timers.
Sunset ! Once gain in the solitude of the moment! Enjoy the evening in a nice spot as the evening sun sets in to the horizon. Funny, but I had in my heart this strong felling of sadness as the sun set, as I know I meant that it was time for me to leave. The end of a beautiful journey
Not yet! The ride back home.... Hello world.... I am a Porsche test driver.... ha ha ha.
