I am a lover of Chettinadu food. I have visited most of the chettinadu restaurants around town and I would rate Karaikudi 5 out of a scale of 10. Mainly because they do not concentrate on one kind of cuisine and they do not do a good job of a multicuisine restaurant too.
The chettinadu eat-out at Karaikuddi does not have the typical startarts of the type of cuisine. The main course is also more westernised that traditional. For example if you order for a ’Kothu parota’ the masala used is a neither-south indian-nor-north-indian kind of masala that is available on the market, while it should be typical south indian chettinadu masala, which is slightly more spicer and has a different taste.
The service and the ambience can also be improved on. The seats have small tears on them. The tiles pasted on the walls are chipped. The air in the atmosphere inside the restaurant in general is that of a ’had-seen-better-days’ one.
