Karan Johar.the first time I heard of him was when I watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
I watched the movie a little late, maybe about six months after it released. I wasnt too fond of Indian movies then, but this movie boosted that interest.
He started withKuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Sana Saeed, Rani Mukherjee, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, and guest appearance Salman Khan. It was released in October 1998. The story is so sweet. I cried so much! Im sure everyone reading this has seen the movie, but if you havent, either watch it or go to https://planetbollywood.com/Film/kkhh.html . The way Karan Johar directs the story is so unique. I hadnt seen a story told like that before.
A long pause and finally Karan Johar came out withKabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, K3G for short, in December 2001, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Farida Jalal and Rani Mukherjee as special appearance. Its true, there is Khushi, and theres Gham. I cried. Again, Shah Rukh and Kajol are starring. I guess they are Karan Johars favourite couple, and theyre mine too! Also, the names Rahul and Anjali are used, as it is same withKuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Then in December 2003, 2 years later, Karan Johar came out withKal Ho Naa Ho, starring Shah Rukh Khan(AGAIN!) Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta and Jaya Bachchan. Again, I cried. Karan directs the story in an awesome way. You were always questioning and pieces of the puzzle were revealed slowly and effectively.
I read swans review, and I kind of disagreed with her. So what if hes only 3 movies old? Hes done some great work. Sure, there are classic movies who have different directors, and theyre much better, but Karan knows how to make his movies modern. He knows how to tell a story, he knows how to make you cry, laugh, smile, and he knows how to tell a love story.
Karan Johar seems to like to use Shah Rukh Khan a lot. Why wouldnt he? Shah Rukh is an excellent actor. He acts so naturally.I dont think any actor acts as good as him.
I believe Karan Johar is a great director, and I think he should be credited for his great works.
