She made a sensational debut with J.P. Dutta’s Refugee, in which she was so good, that people didn’t even notice Abhishek. She was a powerhouse of talent ready to be explored.
Then came her first hit Mujhe Kuch Kehena Hai, in which she again overshadowed the hero. In Yaadien, she was exceedingly good as far as her performance was realistic. But the fact that the audience wanted to see more of Hrithik made her performance go slightly unnoticed.
Then came Ajanabee, which was a hit, and showed her in a glamorous role, nothing much to do, except sing, dance and cry.
Asoka was her film. The film. She shared the screen with Shah Rukh, and people loved Kareena more in the film than Shah Rukh.
If in Yaadien, people saw Hrithik, in K3G the roles had been reversed. She was at her glamorous best and looked lik a dream. also, the character was one of the best characters of the decade. an unforgettable one. and karrena was the only one who could have done the role. And she did it so well, that we still call her "Poo"
then, no one knows what happened. she started saying no to films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, and doing films like Khushi, Talaash, etc. every actor has a low phase and this was her low phase, where people questioned her acting skills.
And how did she came out of this? by doing Performance oriented Art films, in which her performances were par excellence. Chameli, Yuva, Dev & LOC were brillian examples of living a character. in her last scene of LOC, she was so good that an actress like Shabana Azmi praised her whole-heartedly and said if Arth would be remade, she would want her to do Smita Patil’s role.
then amidst a row of hits like Aitraaz, Hulchul, Fida, 36 China town, Chup Chup Ke and flops like Bewafaa, Kyon Ko., some thing else happened, she fell in love. And love mellowed her down, made her a happier and better human being.
and finally Omkara happened, in which she proved that a real actor doesn’t needs lines to convey her feelings. she can do it by silently standing in the corner of the frame. It looked as if Smita Patil had returned.
And then she did a Don, and boy was it hot!
Kareena is special coz she takes risks. even now she is giving her voice for an animated film which no other actress in india had done till now. she is surely the star Actor of this decade.
