I stayed just one night in Fort Bambora during X-mas 2006.
I booked it because of the high ratings in tripadvisor.com.
Please note that this place is more than an hour from Udaipur and you go through REAL Rajasthan. There are few small villages, pretty lake, sandy mountains and picture perfect Rajasthani rural areas.
When you begin to suspect the taxi drivers intentions, there it appears. A beautiful fort/ palace . a history building anyway. And you tell yourself Na, that cant be the hotel. But u know that u are wrong and THATS THE HOTEL.
When we went, the whole staff( six of them) were outside the gates greeting us. You do feel like a royalty. No check in formalities. You go straight to your room and within a few minutes you get hot Masala tea. Divine.
The place was almost empty as most of the guests prefer Goa during x-mas and new year, we were told by the manager. But we have no complaints, as the whole palace was for us.
No telephones and no tele in the room. Perfect if want to be away from the world. Most of the staff dont speak english, so feels traditional with them dressed up in Rajasthani dress. But the manager speaks good english and very helpful.
They made full meals and the service is the best I had ever in my life. You hardly notice them removing the used plates and they wait there to serve the next roti just when u finish eating one.
Its fair to say that I enjoyed my stay in fort more than my day trip to udaipur.
I swear, I had a deja vu that I was the king of the fort during 18th century.
