Dear Divya,
Yours is one of many stories of such so called Authorised Education Center be it for Novel, IBM, MICROSOFT.
Sadly in India the hype and hoopla created by misleading advertising about small modules such as DTP, JAVA, HTML, XML etc... creates a HERD Mentality (like sheep) and these guy take advantage of that proven fact
lets be frank; we get sucked in because we think well end up learning something worthwhile to reflect on our resume,
BUT SADLY THATS NOT WHAT KARROX THINKS or even considers about. It doesnt even cross their minds.
THE INSIDE SCOOP:
The Big fish i.e. the above mentioned Novell, Microsoft IBM have developed Teaching Modules of their softwares and put them up for sale or license it to a company in a partcular country, territory. This license gives KARROX a scent of authenticity and permission to train people. The Big FISH then give out their own certificates to those students who complete the modules. (no university or AICTE affliation is even asked for by the client because of the dazzle of companies of the repute of Novel, Microsoft & IBM)
Once they have sold their Modules to companies like KARROX, MUKESH INTERNATIONAL etc.. they move out of the picture totally.
NOW KARROX guys have to recoup the money invested, so they franchise and open up branches all over they can recover and the enormous amounts in US$ they have paid to the biggies in lieu of liscensing for a particular MODULE of the COURSE LIKE JAVA IN UR CASE in a pre defined area or country & then profits for themselves.
The samll fry i.e the student get stewed in this tussle for the MONEY, wherein to impress you they put up good labs initially but when they have to branch out they have to give it out to the franchisee so at least they have a platform to run on. That is the reason why in the first instance u got taken in by the swanky office, machines and PUBLICATIONS which recommend such institutes beacuse they advertise in them.
A few guys get jobs not because of this particular module of JAVA but for their overall capabilities.
DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER is an old ADAGE and it still holds true even in the e-book age
you guys should first look at the course content and see if its relevant (check up the Novell site and see which year they [patented their technology} as sometimes it is defunct software that is no longer beong widely used.
I know Novell is used a lot in industry but not their JAVA modules, all these swift courses offered by NIIT, APTECH, are nonsense and of no use to a person who has basic knowledge of a PC.
LOOK OUT FOR TROUBLE WHEN THINGS SEEM TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
Precautions can be to get them to give you something in writing up front on their Letterhead so in the end you have a legal leg to stand on.
- Also check up for how long the company has been in exsistence here in INDIA (not in the Silicon Valley) or if they have any prior education imparting background.
Your case is quire similar to one of my cousins who fell into a similar trap wih a company called MUKESH Infotech which had promised him that within 3 months of studies on e-commerce they would get him a job within IBMs India Infrastructure, they finished the course in 14 months and none of the 22 got jobs, I believe the company closed shop and ran for cover lest they got lynched.
SO BEWARE THAT THE END USER IS THE LAST ITEM IN THE FOOD CHAIN in the IT EDUCATION INDUSTRY in INDIA........
DONt fall for it. STAY CLEAR, its easier to learn by trial and error then to go to such people.
