Kasauli: Hilltop Nirvana!

Nestled up at the foothills of the Himalayas, most people haven’t even heard of this beautiful holiday destination called Kasauli. Its about 3-3½ hr drive from Chandigarh and is about 3-4 hrs from Shimla.

Kasauli is a small town developed by the Britishers and to this day it maintains its colonial charm. The streets are narrow and you still find a lot of cobbled streets that remind you of the poem ’’Until We Meet Again “ by Charles M. Moore. Almost all the roads have trails attached to them which the more adventurous travelers can take to wander into the woods full of wild dahlia flowers (in just about every bright color you can imagine) and tall pine, oak and chestnut trees. It’s a great place to take photographs, as every point is so picturesque.

The other places that can be visited around Kasauli are Dharampur, Sanawar(my favorite ) and Monkey point. But for people like me…the trails that lead to the forest are the best adventure to check out this beautiful hill station.

Morning walks to the stream, sipping tea and relaxing, shopping and sightseeing during the day, evening walks to the market place and back and finally sitting at one of the many view points with a glass of wine and looking at Chandigarh, all lit up at night, makes the entire Kasauli experience …just perfect.

Best time to go??…Well that would be anytime! Mind you, it snows in winters ;)

I have been to Kasauli numerous times and I loved each visit. It’s a great getaway!
