A few months back NDTV Imagine was hosting the serial "KAASHI" There had been many pictures on the right of education to girls, children abuses and class distinction of Higher Classes(like Rajputs) and the Dalits.In Indian history the Daslits well looked upon as trash by the higher classes and used the Dalits for menial jobs.The Serial "Kaashi" is based on this topic and has very deftly left a mark on the society.
Plot: There are two main girls Kand Vaijayanti and a boy named Shaurya. Kashi is the daughter of Parbat Ram, a dalit who works as postman.The parents of Shaurya and Vajayanti are Thakurs who rule over the village and the area around, Parbat Ram’s sister Luxmi is married to the maternal uncle of Shaurya who is forced to leave Luxmi (being dalit) and after being married to another girl of his class, he is forced to leave the village .Luxmi starts behaving like a lunatic as her lover deserted her.
Parbat Ram lives with her brother’s family which has one of his elder and one younger brother. Parbat Ram wanted that Kaashi must be an educated girl as he had promised his dying wife.
Parbat Ram is aked todeliver a M.O. of Rs 15000/- to Shaurya’s mother. His father has left home to become a Sadhu and so his mother rules the home affairs. She decives Parbat Ram for Rs.3000/-for paying which he leaves for town leaving Kaashi behind. Kaashi is made to suffer and do menial work at Shaurya;s house but she becomes her fast friend having saved his life.Kaashi is intelligent, studious, industious, well behaved, hard working, cooperative, sacrificing and is a class topper. Vajanthi is the APPLE OF HER FATHER’s eyes and is obstinate, adamant, unrult, and is a spoilt child. But She becomes afriend of Kaashi and Shaurya.The trio become fast friends. Luxmi is accepted by her deserted lovers and becomes normal and allows her husband to live with his second wife. Kaashi manages to save Vajayanti’s life and is kidnapped by her abductors to get ransom from Vajayanti’s father.But she is saved and as her fatherwanted to reform Vajayanti he employs Parbat Ram and allows his family to live in his servant’s quarters. Shaurya comes after completing studies abroad. He loves Kaashi but Vajayanti thins shehad right to marryShaurya, However in the end she understands that Shaurya and Kaashi loved each other she gets them married. The story passes through lots of ups and downs for Kashi asnd Parbat Ram but in the end they get access to higher class with the marriage of Kaashi and Shaurya.
Thus the story is short but to the point The actors have played their role remarkably well.It is a serial which is an eye opener to the society.It depicts:
Nobody is low or high but the intellect and education does make a difference to your life.
Girls must also be educated so that they can play their useful role in transforming the society.
There is dignity of labour. One should not shirk responsibilities.
Daughters are as responsible and reliable as sons in shouldering household responsibilities.
Sincere friends are always ready to sacrifice even their LOVE. Love teaches sacrifice.

Pros;It is one of those serials which was run for the duration it required and no unnecessary stories/actors added to look it gorgeous.
