The beach thats of interest is not in the list. So the nearest is Kashid Beach which is about 12 kms before Murud Jhangira. The Murud beach is a fantasy in its own way.
While travelling here the only road connecting to it is via Alibaug. About 32 kms from Alibaug and Murud is lively even at 1:30 past midnight.
We had been here around February 2006 in a Maruti Zen and the shock absorbs went bust by the time we reached Mumbai.
There are good hotels here and must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
Carry battery torches and emergency lights to avoid getting stuck in the middle of the night with no electricity and street lamps.
Drive straight for hotels like Bagpiper where the room fare can be anything between 1500 to 2500 with a classic view of the Murud Fort in the middle of the sea. Its a Portuguese fort and to get there is by private launches. Though there is nothing to see there.
Once in Murud look for this hotel named, SEA FACE or SEA VIEW. The hotel is a decent place and the owner is very kind. He charges 500 bucks a day and the rooms pretty neat though only a couple of rooms face the sea.
Next to this hotel is a KHANAWAL thats what we call a eating place in Marathi. Its very famous and called PATILs INN
They serve awesome authentic konkani food. Tissrya Sukhe, Surmai Fry and Prawns.
We were 2 couples and we had 4 Fish Thalis, about 8 plates of Surmai fry and Prawns and the entire came to a surprising 400 bucks. In Mumbai for the same the bill would not be less than 2000 bucks.
The Patils Inn runs catering service for Breakfast and Lunch too.
They have a open air sitting as well as a covered restaurant. However for those consuming alcohol its best to sit in the open below palm trees.
Carry mosquito repellents as the blood sucker dine on you while you relish the food there.
They also specialise in Konkani and Malvani masala and one must place their orders for Prawns in advance else the best catch is over even before it reaches the table.
Alcohol consumption though is prohibited withing the premises of the KHANAWAL however if u drive your car into the premises you can booze in the car and have your dinner then go to the beach on the opposite side for nice walk.
In the day drink coconut water and lemon juice to avoid getting dehydrated as the temperatures can be crazy.
