Writing a limited feedback on Kaspersky Internet Security as a detailed one would confuse a lot of non-techie guys in making an informed choice based on factors that they can understand and value.
I hv been using Kaspersky for past 3 years and his worked very well. Havent had any virus intrusions - not that I know of, and was easy to manage. Interface was simple and intuitive.
When I first bought kaspersky, I was making a choice between kaspersky and eset nod32.
I chose kaspersky mainly due to lower cost of kaspersky and INR billing (eset online purchase had to be in USD)
However, I am now again contemplating going back to eset nod32.
The primary reason is that over past three years I have seen a deterioration of Kaspersky IS. The interface has become more complicated (of course, one may argue that they have added extra features), and the biggest botheration is the speed.
Kaspersky now takes ages to update its definition files. whether its a problem with their servers or the software - I dont know, but even small updates are painstakingly slow. This has been checked on some different ISP provider on a different computer as well - to rule out ISP related issues.
Also, the system speed has now become perceptibly slower compared to how it was in the previous two versions - can be a big drain on time and mood when surfing!
hence, though I still dont see any protection related issues, the software has indeed become "heavy" and slow over the past three years and warrants a re-assessment.
Eset in contrast is much silent, uses less resources, is faster and updates very quickly. In terms of protection too - it is of the same standard (if not better) than kaspersky.
This is based on the Free 30-day trial version of ESET NOD32 which appears to be fully loaded. Now the prices have also dropped significantly and you can purchase online in INR.
Hence those of you who are migrating from hacked softwares to the licensed domain - you are sure to find it very good and positive change. However, the reality is that what you are now getting is perhaps not as great wat it used to be two years ago.
There may be bette options in market worth exploring.
Hope this helps
