It may be tad unfair to review a show after the very first episode, but here are my views based on what I saw last nite.
to kick off with a cliche, KBC-2 has started from where it left off. We have been (thankfully) spared of any drastic changes in the pattern or the format of the show. Tho, there is an added incentive ( of Rs. 2 lakhs ) to hit teh button b4 everyone else in the fastest finger first. The prize money... well.. lets not even talk about that. the figure of Rs. 2 crore does all the talking for itself.
The quality of questions.. well.. mixed bag really. Some are a liiiiiittle bit tricky, but some are downright idiotic.
Also, I am not in favour of the new lifeline they have introduced. the Flip option which is open to the participant after a particular stage allows him to reject the Question ( ever heard of nethng like that ?? ) and get a fresh Question in its place. I juuuuuust get a feeling that they are handing it out on the platter here. Hints and help are fine. but rejecting a question is not something that I am in favour of.
And of course when we talk of KBC (2), we cant leave out the master of the show. Mr Bachhan is back with more style, more grace and more oomph ! What amazes me about the man is that he has retained his glamour and charisma ( I think the word is tailor-made for him) DESPITE some insipid television appearances via some stupid ads like those for Ever-ready, Nerolac, Cadbury and the blah !! The prize money and all the jazz is fine, the shows biggest pull is the host.
to sum it up, the best deal for the weekends.
------- xxxxx -------- the review ends here... BUT.. I am adding an account of a KBC aspirant who had a rather unfortunate experience trying to get on to the show. The experience shows very poorly on Airtel AND the organisers of KBC. Quite a reality-check. For the entire account.. follow the link.. https://in.rediff.com/movies/2005/aug/05kbc.htm
Airtime for the contest was Rs 6 per minute. And Airtel was determined to keep me on the line for as long as possible...............
.....To win, I had to get three keys during one call. Getting each key entailed answering at least five out of the 20 questions (by a recorded voice/human, I could not figure) in each round.
On my first call, I got through the first round easily enough. The second round was tougher, but I hung in there. The third round was downright tough. Who won this Emmy in this particular a year and the like. Now I was in uncharted territory. I knew a few and guessed most. And guess what? I was eliminated.
The charge on my prepaid card was lighter by around Rs 60.
The trick in prolonging the call was simple. If I so much as whispered during the question, the voice would simply stop, and repeat the question.
