After reading such fantastic reviews everywhere, my family and me
decided to go to kayaloram for a few days to watch the famous boat
races. Heres the reality check-
1) there are 12 cottages located at the edge of the backwaters. The
area is extremely small. If you are looking for long walks along the
backwaters, then you will be sorely diassappointed.
2) The website says there are all amentites but there are no
televisions in the room and no intercom. Also, no room service. If you
are
looking to get a cup of tea, you have to walk to the restaurant. If its
raining, then you would just have to get wet and since there is no
intercom,
you cant even call for umbrellas.
3) There is very little to do in the resort. Most resorts provide some
sort of entertainment. Well. be prepared to be bored if you want to
spend more than 2 nights here
4) If you are claustrophobic, then these rooms are definitely not for
you. Very dark, closed and small. If you open the windows, be prepared
for mosquitoes. Also, my room had white lights. How dull it looked.
5) The open air bathing area is interesting but could somebody please
put a barricade or shower curtains between the bathing area and the
loo.
Everytime it rains, the toilet paper and towels get wet. If ure sitting
on the bowl, be prepared for a bath too. So ridiculous.
6) Our trip to the boat races was such a disappointment. Extremely
small boat and too many people almost led to a disaster. I think ours
was
the smallest boat at the races and we could barely see the races. We
paid 300 bucks a head to see the races but could barely catch a glimpse
of
it.
On the other hand, there was a larger boat which left before us from
the same hotel. Not only were those people provided with entertainment
but the food seemed so much better. I wonder what that was all about
7) The door hinges are wooden all right but so creaky that everytime
someone enters the rooms or goes to the bathroom at night, everyone
else
in the room wakes up. My baby had a fright several times at night
8) Having said all this, the saving grace is the excellent service of
the staff at the restauant and Raymond (who carefully and patiently
listened to our feedback). The food is the best I have tasted in a long
time too. Even the days trip in the kettuvalam (houseboat) was a
wonderful
experience with some great kerala cuisine and some good local company
Please just make minor changes and make this place more liveable. We
were so so disappointed cause we came from a great distance just to
stay
here.
