When I started with searching for video files on the net I faced quite a few problems, like file format incompatibility, unidentified sources and unfamiliar terminologies, therefor I just thought of putting down eveything that I explored. It just might help someone
who is new to this group and might not be familiar with what all involves in downloading and playing appropriate files using KaZaa.
Following are the common file formats available on the net for Videos;
-DivX (Best quality among all the formats, just like MP3 for Videos and take up less space with better quality)
-DAT (The ones we find in VCDs)
-MPEG
-WMA
DAT/MPEG/WMA are not at all difficult to play in Windows Media Player. However, DivX files require some extra codes (SLD Codec for DivX - 9.88 MB). These codecs are available for free at download.com and other download sites. Although in the absence of these codecs the media player plays DivX files but audio part is still absent.

Installing these codecs enable the Windows Media Player play all the DivX files (.AVI) with sound playback.
The sound and picture quality of DixV files is unmatched. So, if you think that those DAT and MPEG files were the best youve seen, try watching the same video in DivX format.
Bear in mind that KaZaa is an adware and it also includes some spywares. There is another program called KaZaa Lite. This is a hacked version of KaZaa with all the ads and spy s/w removed and is much better than original KaZaa. It is available at

I hope this short experience might be helpful for all the newcomers.
