This movie is one that I hold very close to my heart. I am not much emotional and have been known to yawn through the most tear jerking movies. But this movie....has somehow affected me in a deep way.
Story
------ The movie starts with a young boy who gets lost in the chaos after the Gujarat Earthquake. After fighting abusive policemen and streetchildren he somehow reaches kerala and meets Madhavan(Mammooty). After some apprehensions, Madhavan takes him to his family , much to the delight of his young daughter and the rest of the family. Life was all happy when a politician interferes and takes the child away from the family citing child abuse.
Madhavan runns from pillar to post till he finds a compassionate collector who recommends going to the refugee camp in Gujarat for clearing the paper work for adoption.
After reaching Gujarat madhavan finds that the boy’s family is still reported missing and not dead. This prevents him from adopting the child. Reluctantly he has to leave the child there and returns home. Before leaving, he gives the officer his adress to contact him, if he is allowed to adopt the child in future. The movie ends with.....( Its one of the most heart breaking endings , and I wont reveal it here)
Verdict
-------- Its hard to judge a movie like this reading a review by a person like me who is not able to translate the sheer emotions that this movie will evoke. The remarkable aspect of this movie is that we are able to find fragments of real life in this movie. No sensational dialogues, no over emoting by the cast...very rare for a movie made in India. I can confidently put this in the same league of ’’Life is Beautiful’’. Yes this movie is emotional but not boring. I really did shed some tears during the hauntingly beautiful song ’’Kunje’’ by KJ Jesudas. Even while writing this, almost a year after I have seen it, I feel a lump in my throat. This is one movie that makes me proud as a malayali. Pls do urself a favor and go watch this movie.
