If you love fried items but felt guilty about the health effects of the oily snacks then you will
love the air fryers.
To be honest I bought this one because it was much cheaper then its closest more reputed
"brand name" fryer. However the service( which I could not compare) is none the less simply amazing. Earlier frying was something my wife did and my kids( and dont we all) loved. Frying frozen chips and smiles was a chore as the wet soggy things made the hot oil splatter and make a mess in the kitchen.
Now we simply damp the items to be fried a little sprinkle a spoonful of oil and place it in the food basket. you need to experiment a bit to get the right time for various items and quantities, but trust me the outcome will leave you pleasantly amazed.
Pros:
These fryers save preparation time, are safe, use less oil and so are healthy-er, save the trouble of storing the oil used for frying for another time.
Cons: apart from the cost and a large storage space to keep them( maybe you could replace your oil can with this:) none!.
Final point buy one if you really love fried items and or have kids that do.
Any reason to buy any other brand: I see that the other brand name fryer has a lot of separators and vessels that could be used with the fryer.
But for now I have all I need to get the job done!.
Colour options: havent seen any!. but it would be great to get one to match the kitchen décor.
Update after more usage!
I have a convection oven, again from kenstar model OM 20 DCF and being an engineer I though can we put it to the same use?. The first reason as to why this may not be possible was obvious!. we cannot stack up lot of small items like chips and snacks in the microwave, second we dont have a vessel with holes through which hot air can be forced. Then again no metal inside a microwave, but does that hold in convection mode?
That aside, if you have one of those metal meshed hot pot holders, you could use the oven for the same purpose to fry fish and meat slices. no sparks in convection mode!.
Now back to the oxy fryer, now that we did the easy stuff of frying ready made frozen finger food( always use little oil to brush it, else the potato items taste like they are baked!) we moved on to fish fry and even steaks.
both turned out just as fine as pan fried except that they did not need to be dabbed with tissue to get the oil of them. Again I used the metal hot pot holders to stack more fish slices in the food basket.
We also tried some more exotic stuff that we got off from the free app that I downloaded from iTunes, and must say they turned out very well, yet to try all the 100!
So far the fryer( the food basket and the removable holder were easy to clean as they are non stick and look just like new .
more pros: the heating and blower stops when the food tray is pulled out, so its safe!.
more cons: the timer keeps on ticking as its a mechanical one and does not detect that the cooking has stopped.
All in all, its a show stopper and works effectively, I am going to keep it.
