Though born and brought up in Kerala the land excites me more each time I have a stint there.
Being outside India in a country with Indians who have been outside their Indian forefathers land for long I have been quizzed frequently on the places to visit in India. And invariably the conversation leads to Kerala. And I am amazed that the two most common terms that are attributed to kerala are high literacy and greenery. I too echo the same . Will also add the fluid kerala backwaters in the same breath.
The waters that stretch especially in the region of Kochi and Alapuzha ( Alleppy) provide any traveller with an exciting escapade from the drab city life. The meandering streams, the green banks with coconut trees, the gentle breeze make Gods Own Country a real treat to experience.
I would prefer a country boat ride in the backwaters of alappuzha to a motorised one.
Food in one of the best. especially the seafood..the combination of Tapioca(Known in local parlance as kappa/cheeni)and fish curry is the most tastiest dish I ever had in my life. Dont miss this exotic dish if in Kerala !
The high literacy rate makes it easier for you to navigate in the state. Most of the population understand english.
The latest attraction in Kochi is the new bridge constructed on the Marine Drive. The bridge is in the shape of Cheena Vala( China Net) which has been traditionally used in the backwaters to catch fish.
A must visit if you are in India.
