Has anyone realized that this KFC is only selling ONE thing - Fried Chicken - dressed up in a few different ways? I believe that their branding is the ONLY thing that has so far kept them alive in the Indian market. The food is strictly average. and the practice of giving ketchup in 1 buck difficult to open sachets downright cheap! Actually it’s a cheap way to save on ketchup cost because one will tend to open lesser sachets(due to the difficulty involved) than the amount of ketchup he would consume if given in a bottle or through a dispenser.
How I love the ketchup dispenser at Mc Donald’s, that’s reason enough to go there!
And there is nothing secret about the recipe. Actually the original recipe died with the colonel when he sold off KFC; he himself publicly abused the buyers of KFC with prostituting his recipe and changing it to save costs! Since then KFC has gone through three buy-outs but has interestingly retained the colonel’s logo and the secret recipe myth!
Personally, I believe Mc Donald’s is light years ahead of KFC in terms of everything - quality, quantity and variety. Fillet-O-Fish melted in my mouth the first time I ate it. I found it spectacular, I had never eaten a burger like that anywhere in India till that point. With KFC, I just feel like I am eating luke-warm chicken Pakodas!
Yes! That’s what they are actually selling! Branded Chicken Pakodas! Has anyone noticed how these Pakodas lack shape and aesthetic beauty, apart from taste? Shouldn’t, we being Indians, the pioneers of Pakodas, be served better looking, or at least better tasting Pakodas?! Out here in India, we make all sorts of Pakodas; Alu Pakoda, Onion Pakoda, Mix Vegetgable Pakoda, Paneer Pakoda, Cheese Pakoda, Palak Pakoda, Mirchi Pakoda, Baingan Pakoda, Chicken Pakoda, etc! These firangs somehow stumbled upon one Pakoda variant and are now selling it to us; the Pakoda masters; at atrocious prices! And we are stupid enough to buy it! 110 bucks for two Pakodas? For a 100 bucks, I can get a plate full of 10-12 beautiful and tasty Chicken Pakodas in an air-conditioned Shetty restaurant in Bombay! And here they want more than a 100 bucks for just two of them?! lol
And then they make burgers out of these Pakodas. Holy crap! Would your mom ever put a pakoda, no matter how juicy, in a friggin bun? lol
Bread Pakoda, anyone?!
The next time you go to KFC, take a good hard look at the shapeless(and tasteless) Pakoda masquerading as some "isspeshal angrezi chicken". You might just experience your taste buds and satiation buds responding a little differently!
