”Finally”-is the word which can be used after knowing that this film has released.This film had to face many problems and there are some very interesting things about this film.This is the same film, during which actress Aishwariya Rai, broke her leg.Actor Akshaye Khanna, opted out from this film, and then he was replaced by Tusshar Kapoor.In this film, we are also going to see Amitabh Bachchan, after a long time, without a beard.This film, was actually scheduled to release in November, but due to reasons untold, it postponed, and now ’finally’, it has released.With such a great and huge star cast, does this film, based on the lives of cops, succeeds?
THE FILM:
D.M.S Films.”Khakee”, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Pradha, Tanuja, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Tusshar Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni, Aishwariya Rai and Lara Dutta(in a special appearance).Director, Rajkumar Santoshi has always made impressive and hard-hitting films, like ”The Legend Of Bhagat Singh”, or ”Lajja”, just to name a few.Both these films which I`ve mentioned, just now have very different scripts.Where ”The Legend Of Bhagat Singh”, was about Bhagat Singh`s life, on the other hand ”Lajja” was about the problems faced by women, in our society.Leaving Bhagat Singh and women aside, this time he is back with a movie made on the lives of cops.Is he able to impress his viewers, once again?Yes!To an extent, he does.
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.DCP Anant(Amitabh Bachchan):DCP Anant, is unable to prove his worth to anyone, simply because, he couldn`t succeed in almost all the cases he was handed, in the past days.This time, he has been given a very difficult mission to solve.Will he show everyone his capabilities?Amitabh Bachchan, reminds you once again of his ’angry young man’, days.If he did a wonderful job in ”Baghban”playing a very emotional character, then in this film, as a strong character, he does equally well.The way he shouts, talks, walks in this film, are all praiseworthy!
2.Inspector Shekhar(Akshay Kumar):Shekhar is a humorous and an interesting character.Although, he is not willing to solve the case, which he has been handed over, still he is off to solve this mission.Akshay Kumar, has always been one of the best action heroes, and this time too, he is back in action.He has a great screen presence, and never ever you will feel, as if Amitabh Bachchan has overshadowed him.In his respective role, Akshay Kumar is very impressive.
3.Inspector Ashwin(Tusshar Kapoor):Ashwin is the youngest inspector, amongst DCP Anant and Inspector Shekhar.With a little experience, he has still been handed over a very complicated case.Tusshar Kapoor, remains on the side, still it will be wrong if I say that he has no scope to perform.He has been given an ample scope to perform, and he gives his best to this role.Let`s hope, we get to see more good performances from him.Although, I Have no expectations from his upcoming film ”Shart_The Challenge”, still we can hope that in Ram Gopal Varma`s film, he impresses.
Ajay Devgan, is back in a negative character, after ”Deewaangee”.He has the guts to stand straight infront of Amitabh Bahchcan, and perform brilliantly.His character is very interesting, in which with a different look, Ajay Devgan excels.Atul Kulkarni, (as Iqbal Ansari), is brilliant as usual.Aishwariya Rai, plays your regular Bollywood heroine.She gives a decent enough performance, and looks beautiful, at places, basically in songs.Tanuja, (as Iqbal Ansari`s mother)and Jaya Pradha, (as DCP anant`s wife)are just about okay, considering the fact, that this is a male-dominated flick.Lara Dutta, in her item number, looks smart and sexy.
THE STORY:
The story revolves around three inspectors-DCP Anant, Inspector Shekhar and Inspector Ashwin, who are on a very difficult but not impossible mission.What is this mission?An ISI terrorist, Iqbal Ansari has caused disaster, in the city, Chandangadh.These three officers, are going to handle his case.They are taking him to Mumbai, so that he doesn`t escape.The person behind Iqbal Ansari, is trying to get him escaped, that is why at every phase, these three officers are facing difficulties.His eyes are always focused on these three officers.In this way, will these three inspectors, ever going to win?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Rajkumar Santoshi, the director, once again wins the viewers` hearts.With ”Khakee”, he impresses once again.Making an action, suspense thriller movie, is no easy task, in which the director succeeds.The scene where the main villain of this film is introduced or the climax are examples enough to prove, how excellent, a director is Rajkumar Santoshi.Also, the scene where DCP Anant explains the duty of men in khakis, is noteworthy.Screenplay, is of that kind which will involve the viewers, in the movie.There are lots of twists and turns in this movie, which will keep you hooked to the screen.This film won`t make you feel as if-”Are….yeh kya hua…???”(Hey!What happened?).Editing, is crisp, in the first half, BUT, in the second half, the film gets a bit too long.There are so many fights and ”maar-dhaar”, in the second half.Those viewers who like movies such as “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, will definitely yawn, that is why you should keep in mind that you are going to see a complete ‘action’, film.Coming to the action, of this film, the action is amazing.All the fighting scenes will be highly appreciated by action lovers.Cinematography, is wonderful, which is a very important factor, for an action film, like this one.Ram Sampat`s music is well composed.”Waada Raha”, ”Dil Dooba”, and ”Aisa Jaadoo Daala Re”, are entertaining and well picturised, as well.
ON THE WHOLE::
”Khakee”, has three factors going its way.One is its starcast and the performances from its starcast.The second factor is the brilliant fight scenes and action in this film, which will be loved by the viewers who love watching action films.The third factor is the suspense, which makes this movie, interesting, and of course it`s direction, too.Adding these three factors, the film might do well, at the Box Office.
