Khalnayak Hoon Main

As you’ve probably realised by now - I am a big fan of this film. This was the film I began watching Hindi films. I remember actually watching this film 5 times in the first week and that was by skiving school and watching the afternoon shows. For me this film had everything - a great masala film! Sanjay Dutt turns in a memorable star performance here as Ballu, a notorious, cunning, and unscrupulous criminal who’s wanted by the police for a plethora of murders. Only to have Ballu escape right under his nose.

So Ram’s lovely girlfriend Ganga (Madhuri Dixit) volunteers to go undercover, to trap Ballu and help restore Ram’s reputation. Things get more complicated, however, when Ballu falls for her, and she finds that she isn’t entirely immune to his charms. This fun, thrilling action flick boasts terrific musical numbers, directed with élan by Subhash Ghai. Everybody calls him a villain and he loves to be the Villain. he left home and his mother six years back. He faced 20 years imprisonment for several killings he committed including the one of a Polical Leader.

He made every policeman dance to his tune including the bold and brilliant intelligence Officer Ram Sinha(Jackie Shroff), when he escaped from right under his nose from his maximum security jail. He met a lady Police Officer, an undercover agent called Ganga (Madhuri Dixit) disguised as a dancing girl. He elopes with her, admires her, loves her and shocks her with his dramatics; both devious and lovable tactics..!! He is a raging, ruthless, incorrigible, unpredictable wild rake with an incredible sense of humor.

He beats everybody at his own game till he himself is finally trapped by a thing called "Emotion""Emotion of a Woman" "Emotion of a Mother" "Emotion if a Sacrificing Cop" - Now he is on the run-and-runs-and-runs-till he falls into the lap of his mother. - But then, it is too late for him to change because he is the Villain wanted by the Police and shoot at sight order. The film was quite controversial due to one of its songs and the fact a hero was going to play a evil villain but Ghai (a mediocre director) pulled off an amazing film with a worthy lesson for the vagrants of India.

This movie was one of the biggest hits, and will go down in Indian cinema as the best action thrillers of all time .Music - pick of the bunch has to be, Choli ke peeche kya hai, Nayak Nahi Khalnayak hoon main Oh Maa tujhe salaam and Aaja Sajan aaja. The release of Khalnayak happened to coincide with Dutt’s arrest in connection with the 1993 Mumbai Bombings. The hype surrounding the event and his villainous role in the film gave him a much needed career boost and a filmfare nomination for best actor. Khalnayak went onto become a huge hit.

Also partly because of the use of a popular and a very vulgar song in the film "Chole Ke Peeche Kya Hai" which was also surrounded with controversy. The best part of this film is the "Nayak Nahi, Khalnayak hoon mein" song before the climax and the climax - Outstanding, Sanjay Dutt dances to that song brilliantly and at times you feel for him. Sanjay Dutt was brilliant in this film throughout - he looked scary but also very humourous at times. Madhuri, Rakhee & Jackie were whipped off the screen by a magical performance by Sanju Baba!

One memroble scene was at the end when Sanju has become the big boss and sees a photo of Madhuri in the newspaper and realises that she is going to jail because of him - his eyes tell you the guilt even though he’s laughing. This sells the film for me. This film has a lot of personal memories and has stayed with me forever! I still watch this film once a month - I know every dialogue in this film, EVERY! A great movie to watch - better than the majority of the crap releasing these days!
