Movie makers are trying to bring out something other than the boy meets girl (or vice versa) stuff these days.. In fact these days movies are trying to reform the community!!! This year the trend started with Rang De basanti.. very recently Lage Raho MB also tried to “awaken the masses” While the former tries to give a blatant solution to the issues related to community.. LRMB takes the “Ahimsa” approach.. Khosla Ka Ghosla (KKG) belongs to the “tit for tat” category..
Imagine spending your life long earning on a piece of land.. and loosing your land to some miscreant.. who has no remorse in asking you money for your own land.. Would it be practical to let the guy get away with it? Would you “show him your other cheek, so that he could slap there too”? Well this movie does not suggest that.. this one says ..if somebody, whose conscience is dead, slaps you….slap him harder and put a nail in the coffin..
Khosla ke Ghosle ki Kahani
The story of this movie is set in Delhi / NCR.. and is about a freak Kamal Kishore Khosla (Anupam Kher) who has been saving up for years and has invested in a piece of land where he would build his “Ghosla” and live with his entire family.. As common in every middle class family.. he has already decided about his future as well as everybody else’s who is related to him…and for the same reason puts a strain in his relationship with his elder son Chiraunjilal / Cherry Khosla (Parvin Dabbas) who has had enough with his hometown and wants to leave for US dreaming greener pastures… He has already decided upon everything and has almost got his VISA, from his agent.. Asif Iqbal (Vinay Pathak).. He has a girl friend, Meghna (Tara Sharma) who (obviously) wants him to stay and realize his responsibilities.. KK Khosla has another son Balwant Khosla (Ranvir Shorey).. who is good for nothing but called for everything.. and a daughter (don’t know the actor’s name)..
Its when they go for the Bhumi pujan of their land.. they realize that it has been encroached … After a few adventures on the way.. they come to know that it is now in the custody of Mr. Kishen Khurana (Boman Irani).. who is now asking them to cough up a fat amount of money for their own land!!!!!!… How Mr. Khosla gets his treasured “ghosla” back from the dangerous claws of KK .. and how the most unexpected people end up helping him in doing the same.. sum up the story…
Khosla ke Ghosle mein log
As the title already suggests… Anupam Kher as KK Ghosla is the central character around whom rest of the story and characters revolve.. He has done a good job of the character and does bring out the helplessness of a common man.. Boman Irani as the real estate “Don”.. does bring out the evil character very well… infact in the initial scenes the camera zooms on his face and makes him look like a “Ravan” from Ramlila Maidan…. Tara Sharma as Meghna – Cherry’s love interest does a charming job.. she looks extremely pretty with minimal makeup and looks cool in her kurtas and her jhola.. I find her very talented.. in fact directors haven’t been able to tap her potential yet.. Naveen Nishcol as a Theatre troupe head (where Meghna works as an actor) also plays an important role.. But the actors who impress the most in this movie are Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey…. The former duo VJs of “V” Channel are at their best in their respective characters… Ranvir as the good for nothing Bunty who has the weirdest and (obviously) ineffectual solutions to his father’s problems.. (look out for him in the scene where he goes charging at the gatekeeper of his plot but calms down quickly on realizing that the guy is huge and has a “lathi” with him..) and Vinay Pathak as the pan chewing Asif Iqbal.. the visa agent .. They both are fantastic.. and keep you smiling (if not in splits) whenever on the screen.. Kiran Juneja as Mrs Khosla round up the cast.. Vinod Nagpal does a cameo as Mr. Khosla’s good friend and guide (he somehow always reminds me of Buniyaad.. no matter what charcter he is playing!!)..
The movie a very honest and good effort by debutante director Dibankar Banerjee.. Entirely to his credit, he has timed the story extremely well and never lets any of the characters go overboard with their respective roles…
The screenplay is by Jaideep Sahni who also wrote for Bhoot!! As for music … I think there are only two or three songs of which “Chak De Phatte”.. has gained a lot of popularity…
The movie is definitely worth a watch at least on DVD if not in the hall.. Almost everybody who have invested in land (especially in Delhi) would have come across such problems and thus can related to the story very easily and that’s its USP..
The story also heaves on various emotions.. especially father-son relation….
May Goodness always prevail over Evil.... “Chak de Phatte”
