Ki & Ka

The old saying of, ‘It’s a Man’s World’ is absolutely the idea for making this movie, however, with a new twist. After all, we women are now running the world(much efficiently) and this is what the movie all about. Women in our country have always been considered to be in the house, making food and keeping the family happy. However, back then it wasn’t considered to be that much of a work. But now, with the concept of house-husbands or stay at home dads/husbands the world has started to change its perception on the fact that working at home is also a lot of work.

Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are the main actors of the movie. They characters in the movie have switched their role(or as many call it as switching). Kia(Kareena) is a successful corporate career oriented woman, who doesn’t want marriage to come in the way of her success. Kabir(Arjun) is an IIT Topper who aspires to do what his mother has been doing for years – be a homemaker.

The movie has tried to give a few messages to the stereotypical people watching it:

  1. Being the man of the relationship: Whoever brings money in the house is the man. In 2016, all people need to focus is on their own choices. If the couple is okay with the man being at home and being the homemaker while the wife is going out to work, it should be absolutely fine.

  2. Wife shouldn’t earn more than the husband: What world are we living in? The one who cracks the interview and is capable of getting a better package, gets more salary.

The rest of the messages can be seen while watching the movie.

Kabir and his father’s relationship are injured as the outlook Kabir has is not accepted by the father, who owns a multi-billionaire business. Kia and her mother have a very modern and approachable relationship. Kia’s mother runs some NGO’s and is a single mother.

After meeting on the flight, Kia and Kabir start meeting up, right when Kabir tells Kia how he doesn’t want to be a part of the corporate circus and rather wants to be a househusband. Kia who is very impressed by Kabir gets married to him and their life starts.

Being a viewer and considering my upbringing in the stereotypical society, I was expecting Kabir’s male ego come in the way. However, the movie was a delight for a feminist like me. A few fights and comic moments in the movie made it a good movie by R. Balki.

Kareena looked amazing in the movie and fitted the role of Kia appropriately. Also, Arjun was as always cute. The movie is good to be watched with families – especially the male members of the family.
