After the recent incident I had with an APSRTC bus driver I feel more bent on writing this. The Bus drivers in Hyderabad have no road sense I would say. They don’t care about anything or any rules.
I recently got my scooter and the other day when I was standing at the signal waiting for it to change there was bus that stopped right behind me. Now the driver knows I was there because he stopped behind me. The signal turned green and all the vehicles started to move and this Bus slowly was trying to over take me from the left and I’m not sure why but the driver suddenly turned right and hit my scooter. Thankfully nothing happened to me, except that my new scooter which is not even a moth old has a Scar.
These buses go at high speed in the middle of the road and when there is a stop that they have to stop at, even without a signal turn to the left. What about the people who are already on the left, are they supposed to look for Bus stops also? Even at signals if they have to take a right turn, they stop at the extreme left side and turn to the right and that too at very high speed. I would not say its only the buses these are things done by the drivers of other vehicles also. But the problem is with their size. They are so huge and I’m sure it is very difficult to control it. And so it is all the more a reason for the drivers to be more careful.
The next thing that I noticed recently is even if the signal just turned red and it’s the turn of someone else to move these buses try to zoom off. Why don’t the drivers understand that these are large vehicles and can be a cause of major accidents? Even at turnings they are at such a speed that anything can happen in seconds. There could be people on that side of the road. I’ve noticed this especially at Sangeet cross roads, The buses coming from the Rail Nilayam road taking a left towards Railway Station road and the Greelands crossing where buses take left to go towards Ameerpet.
It has become very scary with these buses around. Or should I say these Scary things around. And my incident I went shivering to my office that day it was 25 kms that I traveled that day after that incident and all the while till I saw people I knew I was shivering. For people like me it can just be shivering but for weal souls anything could have happed. Fortunately I acted on the spot and nothing much happed. But if it was for someone who is not able to react that quickly? “God help them”. Well all this pain of writing just so the Authorities know and train Bus drivers to be more careful so life becomes easy when you actually travel. I’m sure the bus drivers also don’t want to get into a situation of being in a accident, No one wants to do it deliberately. Well, being more careful may get you late by 5 minutes but the lives you save and the Words and abuse that is used in these ugly incidents and the time you would spend after the incident are all saved.
