Kill Bill: an analysis by the UNINFORMED

I went to watch Kill Bill Vol. 1 with FOUR BOYS. That was my first mistake... My night at the movies began like this:

Me: ’’Hey guys, what kind of movie is this supposed to be?’’

Boy #1: ’’It’s the new Quentin Tarantino movie...’’

Me: ’’Yeah, I think I’ve heard of him. So what’s it about?’’

Boy #2: ’’Shut up, its starting!’’

Me: ’’Okay, but what is it about?’’

Boy #3: ’’They’re trying to kill a guy named Bill! Okay?’’

Me: ’’Oh okay. Why?’’

Boy #4: ’’Why did you guys bring her?’’

And so the movie began...

The Plot:

From as much as I understood, the plot was quite intriguing. A beautiful bride and her entire wedding party are gunned down. When the crime scene is examined, the bride is still alive... and expecting a child.

Cut to four years later. She awakes from a comatose state, and is torn apart to realize that she has lost her child.

With some effort, she escapes the ’’hospital of horrors’’ to plot revenge against those who have wronged her: The Assasins.

The Cast:

Uma Thurman plays the role of the revenge-seeking bride. She seeks her revenge on her fellow Assasins who have betrayed her for reasons unknown; Vivica A. Fox and Lucy Liu. And of course, the evil Bill: David Carradine. The story is ’’To Be Continued...’’ in the next volume.

What I Saw:

An intriguing plot that dragged on for almost two hours...

BLOOD...

An awesome performance by Uma Thurman...

MORE BLOOD...

Some very amazing samurai sword fighting...

EVEN MORE BLOOD...

Lucy Liu, as awesome as ever...

AND SOME MORE BLOOD!

Okay, so blood doesn’t necessarily frighten me, but excessive amounts of violence does disturb me and scare me just a little bit...I’m a girl afterall.

Back to the movie theatre...

Me: ’’Oh my god, she just cut her arm off!’’

Boy #1: ’’That was so cool!’’

Boy #2: ’’That is one awesome sword...’’

Me: ’’Ew, she’s still pouring out blood!’’ (covering my eyes...)

Boy #3: ’’You are such a girl!’’ (throwing popcorn at me...)

Boy #4: ’’Yeah, why did we bring her?’’

What My Friends Saw:

A ’’Classic’’ by Tarantino...

A ’’Genius’’ animation sequence...

Some ’’Meaningful’’ Dialogue...

Uma Thurman looking ’’hot’’...

My Conclusions...

This movie, although unexpected, was not a total waste of time. Parts of it were actually entertaining...and I am intrigued to see the next two volumes.

Still, I’m not a Tarantino fan, so I’m sure that the finer nuances of the movie were lost on a uninformed viewer such as myself. I do know that the action scenes were very well-directed but the movie was too graphic at certain points. It also bothered me that I was left hanging at the end...

Here we go again...

Me: ’’What? It’s over?!?’’

Boy #1: ’’Yeah, that’s the end...’’

Me: ’’But what happens now?’’

Boy #2: ’’Don’t you get it? You have to watch the sequel.’’

Me: ’’Sequel? So I have to wait to see what happens?’’

Boy #3: ’’Yeah, in Vol. 2.’’

Me: ’’So I have to sit through another bloodbath?’’

Boy #4: ’’Yeah, but next time, not with us.’’

My advice:

If you’re a big fan of the famous Quentin Tarantino, don’t miss this movie... I’m sure you’ll love it. But if you’re something like me, watch this movie only if there is nothing else you’d rather watch...

But then again, what do I know? I’m just a girl...
