The Beer Seeker

Sunday is my no-restriction day (only for food and drink). Today is the day for Kingfisher Strong Beer with Chicken Vindaloo & Steamed Rice.

Last Sunday we visited a garden restaurant for dinner near our place. As usual I ordered for some mixed veg - nonveg bites and my favorite beer Kingfisher. But due to lot of power cut through out the day beer was not cool enough. Smart owner of the hotel chilled some strong beer with the help of ice. Kingfisher Strong was one of the brands. So I had to choose KF Strong because of its close relation with Kingfisher family.

This drink was in a 650 ml Brown Glass Bottle with a metal cap. As usual metal cap was wrapped by aluminum foil and some useless glue that comes out due to moisture and water. Waiter poured beer in a 500 ml mug and obliged me by maintaining about inch of froth at the top.

I am very fussy about the taste and aroma of any alcoholic drink. Color was not very dark so I checked the aroma. I liked the flavor. Took a sip and found it good too. Took another big one and it flowed through the thirsty troth like the way it should be. It was Cool and Fizzy. Very refreshing one.

Alcohol content in Kingfisher Strong is around 8% as claimed on the level. So calorie is higher than Kingfisher Premium and almost similar to red wine but less than white or fortified wine. Normally alcohol content in white wine is more than that of red wine.

Its Colored bottle prevents oxidation but you cannot see sediments at the bottom of the bottle. Do not consume beer if you find any sediment in the bottle.

I do not prefer beer stronger than this. Equivalent brand is Hayward 2000.

Kingfisher Premium is still my favorite brand.

Price printed on the label – Rs. 40/- in Maharashtra (India)

No drink is good without right kind of food. So what’s the main menu for the dinner? Today it should be Chicken Vindaloo, famous very hot Goan dish. Want to have the recipe?

One kg Skinless Chicken cut into pieces.

2 medium Onion, Garlic Cloves (4-5); 1 -tsp Ground Ginger; 1 -tsp Ground Coriander; 1- tsp Garam masala; 4-5, Red dry chilly (one can use more to make it very hot; use powder if you want), 2-3 tsp Vinegar, Tomato puree may be 5 table spoon, and salt as you like.

Make a paste of onion, garlic, zinger, red chilly. Add these to chicken along with coriander powder, vinegar, tomato puree and marinate for 3-4 hours.

Take oil in a suitable pan and heat it. Add ¼ spoon Coriander Seed, One finely chopped onion. Fry onion on low flame till it is light brown than add the mixture of marinated chicken and mix it properly. Wait for 10-15 minutes till oil & water comes out of chicken. Continue cooking till chicken is fully cooked. Add Salt and Garam Masala and mix it properly.

I do not prefer to use microwave oven for this type of recipes.

One can use finely chopped coriander leaves during serving. I prefer this with plain steamed rice.

Donot drive even after a bottle of beer
