The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Book 29

Read between: April 5th 2010 and April 10th, 2010

The book is about 2 friends Amir and Hassan in Afghanistan. It’s about the good times and then the worst times in Afghanistan. Books like these create a want in me to read about History of places. Guess World History.

Anyway coming back to the book. The name comes from a very popular game of Kite Flying, played there in a season with do or die attitude. The 2 friends were champions in it. Amir the kite flyer and Hassan the Kite Runner.

So many people die, almost everyone loses their original home, so many immigrate to foreign lands.

Hassan being of a lower caste and a servant and may be a good human always ignores the bad in people, esp. in Amir. Amir is a good person also but is a little selfish, fearful and goes on a guilt-ride quite often. They grew together, their mothers went away from them from birth, drank milk from the same breast; and then they part ways at a point and never meet again. But their lives remain connected somehow. The characters were good, the story was good and it did not portray the scary parts a lot like in Thousand Splendid Suns in which you felt helpless while reading it.

It’s a nice book n nicely put together with every character coming and then getting lost and then finally coming back at the right time in the story with a right reason. It was like how we see a puzzle pieces together and then they are broken and separated and then we find them and join them to complete the puzzle.
