The master’s piece is no masterpiece.

The master’s piece is no masterpiece. Hitting the point at once- Kites was a disappointing work by the director Anurag Basu. The technical work went for a toss with a blur background in every second shot. How can you expect an aesthetic backround with fountain unclear? Unacceptable. However, smooth panning is commendable and perfect cinematography by Ayananka Bose is well admired by all. Constant flashbacks are fused in with such a fidelity that head bows down for Akiv Ali’s editing. Every frame has been designed with captivating contrasts and grandeur that leaves eye wide open. Lighting is a set example of what you call is the best. Action shooting is much raved about and cannot be ignored when it is not just the Hrithik Roshan playing around the cat and mouse game but Barbara too is filled with zeal.

The storyline is the most criticized one. Moreover, why not when most of it has the same old hide and seek stuff, that too continuously and in consecutive scenes. May be that it was for those who have not heard of old movies Kati Patang or Koyla . The movie is not much different from them. Who is to be blame? In the beginning, movie triggers quite well with Joe (Hrithik Roshan) taking salsa classes in LA to earn his daily bread. He can be a crook too for few bucks but has a kind heart within. Later he bluffs Gina (Kangana Ranaut) and tries to marry her having pretential affair for money and name but his plan suffers when he falls for Linda ( Barbara) who is her would be sister-in-law. They both elope together and the game begins. Romance between Hindi and Spanish is much talked about. This is quite similar to the old bollywood movie Ek Dooje Ke Liye . This also brings in a dash of humor that breaks the continuous tragic and hard stuff trail and serves well. This time even Rajesh Roshan’s music could not save it and audience had to go with their heads boggling rather than jingling.

Hrithik was amazing as always with stunning looks and his grooves on Flexy Stu’s choreography left an eternal impression on viewer’s mind. Honestly, Barbara Mori’s fresh face did not work that well. She is not as beautiful as she was portrayed. But yes, the way Linda speaks broken English made her look cute. Viewers expected something out of the box but actions like hero lending his coat to the heroine, she inviting him to dance in rain, hero talking about his dead mother and crying over his life, all this made the story a passing one. Moreover, Kangana Ranaut hit the screen for not more than 7- 10 shots after playing such an important role of giving a third angle to the love story of Joe and Linda. Story ends with the suicide of Joe that again is nowhere different from the way Rose did in James Cameron’s Titanic. Then the same old underwater soul rendezvous that leaves you with no choice other than hitting your head hard.

In the end movie is no more than bollywood romance in abroad. Hindustani masala in Mexican dish did not work out. Nevertheless, how can you forget that this played out positive for the Rajneeti, which turned out to be a perfect multi star movie? Loss of one means the profit of other. This is as always. Either you do not publicize in promos or if you do then be sure that, you justify it. That’s all that can be said
