After hearing so many bad comments about the movie, I put on a brave face and went ahead with my plans to watch Kites. And at the end of it I came out feeling sad, but not BAD. It was money well spent. After a long long time. After 3 idiots I saw a bollywood movie of a very quality.
Plot: A lot of people told me, there is no plot in the movie. After the movie, I found THIS statement totally untrue. Its a brilliantly executed plot with a number of flashbacks which finally meet in the end. The plot has handled well by Anurag and should be given credit for it.
Acting: Hritik has done really well and so has Barbara. Kabir Bedi has a limited role and so does Kangana but they do justice to their roles.
Cinematography and Direction: Just wonderful. You expect the best from a director like Anurag Basu and he delivers.
Now for the bad points I felt at a few places the movie could have been more tight and Kabir Bedi and Kangana could have been used better. Both of them are fantastic actors and did justice to whatever little they did.
We have had movies like MNIK, Housefull and more recently Badmash Company trying to get some attention of the Indian cine goers. MNIK succeeded, Housefull certainly did well at the box office and Shahid Kapoor starrer - Badmash company failed.
Now we have Kites which seem to be going the Badmaash Company way. Its a shame really. We have silly movies like Singh is King, Housefull and an average movie like MNIK doing extremely well at the box office, but a wonderful movie likes Kites failing because we have the huge section of movie goers who prefer Singh is king, Dhoom etc kind of movie. Well Kites has failed not because of itself but because of poor public taste.
Kites is the right direction towards which Indian cinema should be morphing towards, but sadly so, the Indian cinegoers still havent evolved.
