’’Kkusum’’ is a daily soggy waterbag from the grand KKekta aunty soap factory aired on Sony on the monday-thursday schedule at the 9 pm slot or the torture slot as some battered viewers like me would like to say.
Basically, it began as the simple story of a simple next-door girl who gets married into an affluent family to a sophisticated trashcan, oops ’’pati dev’’, but as soon as the first score of episodes got over, I realised that it was everything but simple.KKusum , the protagonist was acted well by Nausheen Ali Sardar but ultimately she also started getting tired of looking like an out-dated glycerine bottle .
Married, divorced, remarried, divorced, widowed, remarried, multi-married..ahem, ahem.Not to forget the ever erring husband of KKusum , Abhay Kapoor who just dangled between various bed-sheets with various wives, keeps etc but still swore undying love for Kkusum. I am still scratching my head as to what category to put him in - cad? confused cad? super-confused cad? or simply a wishy-washy scumbag?
I left watching this latherless soap but am still wondering.Ya, there was another husband in between called Sid who was nice ...a nice salamander.Ok, ok, I do not intend to be wicked.TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, NOBODY IN THE SERIAL LIKED THE ’’SAFEDI KI CHAMKAAR ’’ of Kkusum’s goodness and especially those vixen-turned-vamp brigade did hardly anything else except plotting against her.Drawing room politics, tee hee!
Heights of shocking stupidity and immorality were scaled when this doldrum drama took a leap of 20 years and Nausheen said ’’tata-bye-bye-thank-you’’ to her tear-gland-exhausting launch pad and the talented Manasi Joshi Roy took the reins as Kkusum.Both daughters of Abhay( hehe , again from multiple wives-kkusum and mahi) took all 44 chromosomes from their loose character dad dearest.
Kumud who harped about ’’morals’’, ’’maan-maryaada’’ and ’’sanskaars’’ took the first opportunity to sleep with her decent boyfriend Kshitij and then of course cried rivers when she got pregnant.
Kali, Abhay’s product from Mahi wanted to win the competition and turned into a sophisticated ’’pati patni aur woh’’ by bedding Kumud’s husband Garv and then faking pegnancy to separate them. siggghhh!
Need I say more? All men are leaking glycerine bottles here as they keep croaking ’’Tere Naam’’ in the memory of their multiple lost beloveds. All women here are pseudo-walking advertising campaigns for the new age contrasexual woman while al they do is break the moral and ethical codes.Kkusum is perhaps the only one who still retains dignity.
Like many of Ekta’s serials, this serial too makes a joke of relationships, especially a sacred institution like ’’marriage’’.
If I have to think something positive about Kkusum , then I can only say Manasi’s acting( though she is also sick of being a water tap) and good furniture. That’s it! Rating? you’ve got to be joking!
