We had approached the recent center opened by this playschool in Domlur for admitting our son to their playgroup. My son had undergone intestinal surgeries in his earlier years so is physically weaker compared to other 3 year old kids. Due to this we had requested the playschool for the following concessions.
A longer settlement process than one week which is the norm across playschools usually, at worst case one month.
Gradual increase in classroom timings. To start with one hour and build up to 2 hours as part of his settlement process, so that he could cope up easily.
There were hardly 3 kids in the playgroup when we approached them and they seemed pretty okay about it. They requested us to mail them the medical history to take the process forward. We were shocked when they responded saying that they could not take the admission process forward as they did not "have the expertise to provide the support you are seeking. Our teachers are trained in Early childhood education and not for any special needs."
What on earth type of training does any school need to provide for a longer settlement process of upto 1 month or a gradual increase in classroom timings? We didn’t have any special needs request at all. There was no need for them to term the child as one with "special needs" if they were not willing to relax the timings and policy for us. Total turnaround from what was communicated in their face to face discussions!
Would definitely not recommend anyone to opt for Klay after seeing their manner of communique and volte-face
