I have traveled for the first time in KLM flight from Delhi to Amsterdam. The e-ticket was purchased by M/s. Shell International BV, Den Haag, Netherlands, as they had called me to appear an interview in their office. I have very bitter experience during this KLM journey. When I reached Delhi airport KLM check-in counter with my e-ticket print-out and showed it to your ground staff, first they asked me to establish my identity. In spite of producing my passport bearing valid VISA issued by Royal Netherlands Embassy, New Delhi, your ground staffs (an Indian lady and her Indian male Sikh colleague) started asking questions very rudely such as “where I am going, what is the purpose, who will bear the cost at Netherlands, if I have any call letters from Shell” etc. When I asked the reason of such queries, I have been told that is normal for any passenger. After reaching Amsterdam, I found my booked luggage (soft) was totally soaked with water. The matter I reported to your ground staffs. In their presence I opened the luggage and fortunately found the water had not penetrated inside. Your ground staff told me that since the inside material was not damaged, they cannot take any action. But still it is not expected from a reputed airline not to take adequate care to protect passenger luggage. When after my return, I sent complaint to their customer care, one Ms. Piyali Dasgupta (Customer Care Manager, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka & Maldives) wrote to me the following e-mail: (Quote) “We wish to convey our apologies for the experience you had during your travel on KLM-Northwest Airlines. May we explain the regulations and liability for travel documents are limited by the provisions of The Montreal Convention as stated in the General Conditions of carriage for Passengers & Baggage.
