Have you looked at the label of the soft drink you consume lately? It will say "artificial sweeteners / flavouring agents / colours" without specifying the same. Usually, this will mean that you have an ingredient called Aspartame in the soft drink?
What is aspartame? Simply put - a chemical, which is not good for you. It is known to cause cancer. It has to be handled very carefully, including temperature controlled during the cold chain of the product, which is not possible in India - since cold drinks are carried in open trucks exposed to the heat.
On persistent RTI applications, the Government of India, Ministry of Food Processing, Ministry of Health and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, all confirmed that risk analysis had NOT been done on Aspartame. But still it continues - because of the clout of users like Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola, Cadburys and other user companies.
Please beware of any product that has aspartame in it.
