Know what u r getting into!!

Well its been quite a long time since I have rolled up my sleeves and got down into writing some reviews on MS but hopefully those times have passed. MY exams just got over and I have been watching movies and shows with a vengeance... so let me get down to this particular movie review..

Knowing , is what I call a ‘CHB’ movie… ie could have been movie!! There was an interesting plot with tons of ways to take it forward but the writers and producers thought to take the most serious and depressing one of them all. That doesn’t necessarily make it a boring movie for everyone though it was for me!

The movie starts in 1969 where an elementary school buries a time capule to be opened in 50 years and each student was to draw a picture of what they would think would happen in 50 years. A seemingly disturbed child writes out what only can be made out to be a random sequence of numbers. 50 years later a widower and an astro physicis professor’s (nicholas cage) son gets this particular sheet when they opened the capsule. Though not interested at first Nicholas stumbles upon the fact that the numbers are the dates and the death toll numbers of various accidents that has happened in the past 50 years!! Now Nicholas being an ardent believer of coincidence and that there is no premeditated purpose in anything happening in life, doesnt give it much importance but then he rechecks all the numbers and realises that the sheet did indeed accurately predict all the major catastrophies around the globe incuding its location!!

Only 3 events are yet to happen and Nicholas finds to his increasing dismay that Lucinda ( the disturbed child) was right about these too. From all the above I can honestly say they had an interesting concept to build on and indeed the movie too was quite entertaining and gripping till this point, but henceforth the movie takes a drastic step into ultra seriousness with the last prediction in the paper to be the end of the world!! They bring in aliens that communicate telepathically to children, a disturbed female lead, too many plot holes to completely mess up the movie. Its like the two halves of the movie don’t match. Nicholas cage had nothing much to do rather than run around and act depressed and Rose Byrne was irritating (atleast her character was) and the two children didn’t connect with the audience at all. There are some really well taken scenes( the plane crash and the subway crash) which needs to be seen even if its just on youtube.

I am not quite sure whether this movie was a commercial succes or not but it did garner quite a lot of initial surge both in popularity and financial gains. Catch this one only if you are in a somber mood and have nothing better to do rather than find another theory on the annhilation of the planet!!
