On my recent visit to Bengaluru, self along with Umesh setout at 10 am to M G Road for shopping spree and later on to Chinna Swamy Cricket Stadium for a lunch session along with Sridhara ji and Khalid who have agreed to meet us at Stadium.
Sridharaji is a member of KSCA Club and its very difficult for one to accure a membership now. Thanks to Sridharaji for lunch offer.
While we were in M G Road, Umesh wanted to get some books on travelogue from Higginbotham’s, but it was closed therefore we settled on with Gangaram’s Book Bureau and he got few of his choice. Later on I wanted to buy a leather Lap-top overnighter from VIP showroom and tried it at its Brigade Road showroom and found not available. Disheartened with morning dilemma, opted out for a stimulative drink at nearby eatery. Umesh suggested to go to an oldest restaurant in Brigade Road since 1970’s plus called “Kohinoor Restaurant“ which happened to be my favorite hideout during my school/college days too.
Kohinoor used to serve several savory items among patti samosas & puffs both vegetarian and non vegetarian was the ultimate. In 1980’s there used to be huge crowd only to have these delicious snacks, people used to throng from different parts of Bengaluru. In Kohinoor Restaurant, there were 2 special cabins made at both left & right side where they used to accommodate, couples and the discerning customers who been patronizing Kohinoor.
When we step inside the restaurant, my memories were meandering its glorious days where I had good quality time spend with my friends whom I can’t trace out, but only left with their memories. We settled for two special chai which they served in its customary norm. We enjoyed the stimulant and exchanged few words with its owner and came to know that, Now a days due to Government notification, No smoking is allowed inside the restaurant as well as those special cabins does not welcome any more couples or lovebirds or…….
The service standards have not been changed, the bill format , qulity of paper and printing and paid stamp not changed. Its as its.
Kohinoor serve - Breakfast items, Lunch (meal) and Biriyani, kerala parothas, Non-Vegetarian dishes, etc . This place is liked by yound and elder as its economically priced and feel comfortable..
In 1970s a Cup of Chai costed 35 NP, went up to 70 NP in early 80s followed with RS 1.00 and now its Rs 10.
As a souvenir, we have taken the chai bill ( bill number 266) with us and clicked few pictures, which Umesh will upload. Kohinoor telephone Number is 25587895
I was very happy to be there which regained good old days memories that cherish for ever. We bid good-bye to Kohinoor’ and proceeded to KSCA Stadium Club where Sridharaji and Khalid were waiting for us.
There we had a great time........ Not with King of Good times, but our campanion was BD.
