Two days ago when I stood in the advance booking(150 people long) line to buy tickets for KOI MIL GAYA I had a lot of expectations from the movie considering it dealt with a different subject like Aliens and spaceships. Unfortunately the movie was way below my expectations since it was exactly like any other hindi movie with no difference, as they claimed. But the movie cant be completely written off because Hritik Roshan gave a splended performance and its a treat to watch him act well after the nightmare MPKDH.The first half of the movie was pretty engaging and entertaining but the second half dragged, also disappointed us with a cliched ending!
THE PLOT...
Hritik Roshan is a mentaly retarded child with a 11 yr old brain and a grown up body. His father is a scintist who is interested in aliens and very much into the extra terristrial beings. Unfortunately before he proves himself to the world he dies. After a few years, when Hritik and Preity Zinta (his newly aquired friend) are
meddling with his fathers computer suddenly they make contact with the aliens and thus the whole town encounters a space attack leaving behind an alien, who befriends Hritik and stays in his house after Preity and Hritik find him in the jungle. The whole town is in search of the alien and these guys hide him in their house.
The town rags tease Hritik and make fun of him but after the alien enters his life all this stops since the alien gives him power and supports him in all ways possible. He starts becoming normal thus falling head over heals in love with Preity. The police
finally find the alien and take him in their custody, but Hritik fights and gets
Jadu(Alien) back and while heading for his house he sees the space craft land again. The alien goes back and Hritik gets back to his previous state, that of a abnormal man with a childs brain. As in all hindi films , Preity still loves him and assures him that she is still in love with him. The alien also sends him powers from above when he is in danger.
THE DIRECTION, SPECIAL EFFECTS etc etc...
The direction is pathetic and Rakesh Roshan was very very confused about what to make. He has ended up making a film that was good in parts and very cliched in others. The special effets were superb and so were the locations and cinematography. The story could have been a lot more better and they could really have made something different other than making what they actually have made. The second half of the movie goes completely haywire and spoils the whole effect.
I would give 3/5 for the first half and 1/5 for the second half, thus out of 5 the movie gets 2.
THE PERFORMANCES...
Hritik Roshan: This is the best performance he has given. He really makes you sympathise with him and thats the biggest high of the film.
Preity Zinta: Preity Zinta looks fabulous and does her job pretty well.
The rest of the cast which mostly comprises of the children were fantastic.
The music was melodious though some of the songs were completely out of place and unnecessary. Also the Villian/hero bit was unnecessary and hampered the good flow of the film.
Overall its a fair attempt which could have been much much better!
