I have been using Kotak Trump Credit card since it was launched in 2008. I admit that I had absolutely no problems to get this card. This card ( Trump card ) is very good in the following respects :
1) 10% cash back on restaurant bills anywhere, all year round
2) similarly, 10% cash back on movie tickets
Note: Max joint monthly cash back Rs 800
3) Petrol surcharge waiver across all pumps
4) Railway surcharge waiver upto Rs 500 per year
5) No interest no fee EMI for 3 months ( However I have not tried this and I dont even intend to )
So basically, the first two points are very attractive as you save a lot, especially on food expenses. This is my experience. Every month the bill shows the cumulative cash back enjoyed and it becomes appreciable after a few months.
As far as service is concerned, I am quite satisfied. I found that the customer care executives knew how to speak English properly and they addressed my queries well, unlike other banks.
However there are some drawbacks too
1) Add on card is for a very high fee of Rs 199
2) Overlimit and late payment charges are higher than the usual charges of other cards
3) There are no reward points. Only cash back as mentioned above.
4) I found this pretty silly : I dropped cheque in Kotak ATM dropbox to pay the bill but my cheque never reached Kotak cards. After enquiring, I learnt that cheque for bill payments should be dropped in Skypak boxes or at Kotak bank branches and not in ATMs.
The good thing is that they didnt charge me for late payment in this case.
So, I conclude that this card is a simple credit card which is beneficial for the reasons mentioned above and if used with discipline ( as every credit card should be ) this credit card is good to have. The good thing is that there are no hidden costs, deceptive schemes, pesky callers from the bank for loans and other crap ( which is irritating ) and any other nuisance associated with it.
Hence I give a high rating inspite of the drawbacks which I discussed.
