Scrutinise your past statements carefully.
They have made a promise in they will refund service charges levied for petrol filled on ALL PUMPS in India. On top of the pump-fuel amount, a merchant-banker charge is levied & further service tax of appx 10% on the latter.
Subsequently, Kotak cards refunds’service charge’, as promised in the card-issuance terms. But, watch closely; not the full amount is refunded but less by Service Tax paid to Fin Min. Obviously, when they have not charged a service fee(net effect), they dont have to pay anything to the FInance MInister either.
It seems Kotak Cards is deliberately swindling this small change from each of the pump-fills! When I challenged them with details on a transaction, taking the matter up with grievance officer(next stop is action on them by Bank Ombudsman/RBI), they tried over phone passing it as’saar, that was charged not by us, but the clearing bank HDFC’. When I went on, put it in writing so that I can take up with HDFC, they promptly put the phone down & given the credit back of service tax, a few days later.
When I further challenged them, why this was NOT automatically paid back as a part of refund of service charge, I was told in writing that it is their policy to pay Service CHarge levied automatically & then refund Service Tax collected on that Service Charge, to those that claim post-facto at every instance of use of their card in Pumps.
Now, how many out there know that Kotak Cards is stealing on Pump charges?
Now, for start, pick last few petrol filled transaction, write an email to them "I dont hink I have got back full service charge levied, in particular Service Tax levied on the Service Charge".
You will be rewarded. More like me will expose the blatantly unscrupulous Business Practice, that is possible only in this glorious country of ours!
