Krisons brand is one of the few lesser known brands in the consumer electronics circle. If you happen to do a world-wide-web search on ’Krisons’ from a site like ’ http://www.google.com’, I am sure most of the surfers will not be able to find anything releated to DVD players. Atleast, I was unable to find anything related to DVD players during my search of the web! If some of you can recollect (exclude the latest generation kids), Krisons was in the Indian market for quite sometime selling one of the best quality VCPs (Video Cassette Players). Known for durabality, affordability and quality, it was able to enter quite a good number of households in India. The same company has launched a gammut of products like VCD players, DVD players, MP3 Car stereo players and so on. One of the recent advertisements in Times Of India (Bangalore Edition) carried information about the Krisons DVD players 733 and 633. I had a look at some of the products that were displayed by Krisons during the last AV (audio-Video) Expo held in Bangalore. These players claim to have the latest features included in some of the top selling brands of DVD players in India. Some of the features listed include:
. Progresive scan *. DVD, VCD, ACD, MP3, CD-R, JPEG files, Kodak Picture compatability *. DVD-R player facility and *. 5.1 channel surround sound (make note of this). For those of you who are interested in the last feature, this is a pleasure to hear. Sometime back, a DVD player with 5.1 channel surround sound was priced over Rs.10, 000.00 in the Indian market. Means all you need to do buy a 5.1. speaker system and directly connect it to this DVD player and low, you have a home theatre system that fits your purse! Claimed by the company sources to be priced (in Bangalore) at Rs.3999.00 (+ Rs.199.00 frieght and handling), this is definitely a welcome news as the quality (hope that it is the same as the VCPs sold under the same name) factor can be on the better side. Definitely, Krisons seems to compete with brands like Sansui, Philips, Onida, to name a few in the same market segment and thus the fierce competition. However, Krisons seems to be the least priced compared to other DVD players with same features, in the Indian market. When I called the Krisons distributor in Bangalore, the courteous staff however could not handle any technical queries (they couldnot answer whether the player was capable of handling multi-region DVDs (a.k.a region-free)) and the product though lacks the professional design as compared to other leading brands, hope will definitely keep the promise of quality delivered earlier.
